The 2020 season was Brann's fifth season back in Eliteserien since their relegation at the end of the 2014 season.
On 12 June, the Norwegian Football Federation announced that a maximum of 200 home fans would be allowed to attend the upcoming seasons matches. [1]
On 26 June, Lars Arne Nilsen left Brann by mutual consent. [2] On 8 August, Kåre Ingebrigtsen was announced as Brann's new manager. [3]
On 10 September, the Norwegian Football Federation cancelled the 2020 Norwegian Cup due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Norway. [4]
On 30 September, the Minister of Culture and Gender Equality, Abid Raja, announced that clubs would be able to have crowds of 600 at games from 12 October. [5]

The 2017 season was Viking's 29th consecutive year in Eliteserien, and their 68th season in the top flight of Norwegian football.
The 2017 season is Brann's second season back in Eliteserien since their relegation at the end of the 2014 season.
The 2018 season was Vålerenga's 17th consecutive year in the top flight now known as Eliteserien. They finished sixth in the Eliteserien and reached the Quarterfinal's of the Cup where they were knocked out by Rosenborg.

In Europe, Molde where knocked out of the 2020–21 UEFA Champions League by Ferencváros dropping into the Europa League where they progressed to the Round of 32 which will take place in the 2021 season.

They finished as champions of the Eliteserien for the first time, and in turn qualified for the UEFA Champions League for the first time, whilst the Norwegian Cup was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Norway. In Europe, Bodø/Glimt reached the Third Qualifying Round of the Europa League where they were knocked out by Milan.
