The 2023 Philadelphia Union season was the club's fourteenth season in Major League Soccer, the top flight of American soccer. The team was managed by Jim Curtin, his tenth season with the club. The club's regular season began on February 25, 2023, and concluded on October 9. Outside of MLS, Philadelphia will participate in the U.S. Open Cup, the CONCACAF Champions League, and the Leagues Cup.

The club finished second in the Supporters' Shield standings and first in the Eastern Conference. [2] The Union appeared in their first MLS Cup, where they lost to Shield winners Los Angeles FC in a penalty shootout. [3]

The Eastern Conference is one of Major League Soccer's two conferences, along with the Western Conference. As of 2023, the division of the Conferences broadly follows the path of the Mississippi River from the Great Lakes to the Gulf of Mexico, with clubs east of the River in the Eastern Conference.

The 2019 Philadelphia Union season was the club's tenth season in Major League Soccer, the top flight of American soccer. The team was managed by Jim Curtin, his sixth season with the club. Building on the previous 2018 season, the Union won their first MLS Cup Playoff match in club history, in a comeback 4–3 win against New York Red Bulls. Additionally, the team set new records for points earned within a single season (55), wins (16), and goals scored (58).

The 2020 Philadelphia Union season was the club's eleventh season in Major League Soccer, the top flight of American soccer. The team was managed by Jim Curtin, his seventh season with the club. The Union's season began on February 29, 2020, and was scheduled on end in October or November 2020, depending on their regular season performance. On March 12, 2020, MLS suspended the season due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Originally planned to be a 30-day suspension, the league remained suspended until July 9, 2020, when competition resumed with the MLS is Back Tournament. The tournament ran through August 11, 2020, with the remainder of the season, under a truncated format, continued through November 8, 2020.

The 2021 Atlanta United FC season was the fifth season of Atlanta United FC's existence, and the thirteenth year that a professional soccer club from Atlanta, Georgia competing in the top division of American soccer. Atlanta United played their home games at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Due to the cancelation of the 2020 U.S. Open Cup, Atlanta competed in the 2021 CONCACAF Champions League as the final berth was given to the defending champions of the U.S. Open Cup.

The 2021 Nashville SC season was the club's second season as a member of Major League Soccer. This was the club's last season in the Eastern Conference after being added to the Conference in 2020 after the MLS is Back Tournament as the club returns to the Western Conference the following season in 2022 due to the addition of Charlotte FC.

The 2021 Philadelphia Union season was the club's twelfth season in Major League Soccer, the top flight of American soccer. The team is managed by Jim Curtin, his eighth season with the club. The club's regular season began on April 7, 2021, with the CONCACAF Champions League, and then on April 17, 2021, with MLS play, and ended on November 7, 2021, a month-delayed start due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The 2021 New York City FC season was the club's seventh season of competition and its seventh in the top tier of American soccer, Major League Soccer. New York City FC usually played its home games at Yankee Stadium in the New York City borough of The Bronx. Like the 2020 MLS season, the club also played several of their home games at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey due to scheduling conflicts with Yankee Stadium and its backup stadium, Citi Field. New York City FC won the clubs' first MLS Cup title by defeating the Portland Timbers 2–4 in penalty shoot-outs with a 1–1 score before going into extra time, in which neither of the teams scored.

LAFC played its home matches at the Banc of California Stadium in the Exposition Park neighborhood of Los Angeles, California. Steve Cherundolo is the club's second head coach, joining on January 3, 2022.

The 2022 Philadelphia Union season was the club's thirteenth season in Major League Soccer, the top flight of American soccer. The team is managed by Jim Curtin, his ninth season with the club. The club's regular season began on February 26, 2022, and concluded on October 9. Outside of MLS, the Union also competed in the 2022 U.S. Open Cup, entering in the Round of 32.
