The 2024 BYU Cougars football team represents Brigham Young University (BYU) as a member of the Big 12 Conference during the 2024 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The Cougars are led by ninth-year head coach Kalani Sitake and play their home games at LaVell Edwards Stadium.

Offseason

Coaching changes

On November 28, 2023, it was announced that offensive line coach Darrell Funk and tight ends coach Steve Clark would not be retained. [1] On December 21, 2023, TJ Woods was announced as the new offensive line coach and run game coordinator, [2] followed on January 12, 2024 by Kevin M. Gilbride being announced as the new tight ends coach. [3]

The Cougars were led by 14th-year head coach LaVell Edwards and played their home games at Cougar Stadium in Provo, Utah. The team competed as a member of the Western Athletic Conference, winning a share of their 10th consecutive conference title with a conference record of 7–1, sharing the title with Air Force. BYU was invited to the 1985 Florida Citrus Bowl, where they lost to Ohio State. The Cougars were ranked 16th in the final AP Poll with an overall record of 11–3. Their loss to UTEP is considered to be one of the biggest upsets in college football history, with it being tied for the fifth biggest by points spread.

BYU was invited to the Holiday Bowl, where the Cougars lost to Penn State.

The Huskies were led by head coach Chris Petersen, in his sixth and final year as head coach. The team looked to improve upon its 10–4 record from 2018. After the regular season, Petersen announced that the team's postseason bowl game, the Las Vegas Bowl, would be his final game with the Huskies. Respected defensive coordinator Jimmy Lake would take over the reins after the Las Vegas Bowl, firing two offensive coordinators within 24 hours. They played their home games at Husky Stadium in Seattle, competing as a member of the North Division in the Pac-12 Conference.
