The following is a list of events of the year 2025 in Alabama .
The Supreme Court of Alabama is the highest court in the state of Alabama. The court consists of a chief justice and eight associate justices. Each justice is elected in partisan elections for staggered six-year terms. The Supreme Court is housed in the Heflin-Torbert Judicial Building in downtown Montgomery, Alabama.
The lieutenant governor of Alabama is the president of the Alabama Senate, elected to serve a four-year term. The office was created in 1868, abolished in 1875, and recreated in 1901. According to the current constitution, should the governor be out of the state for more than 20 days, the lieutenant governor becomes acting governor, and if the governor dies, resigns or is removed from office, the lieutenant governor ascends to the governorship. Earlier constitutions said the powers of the governor devolved upon the successor, rather than them necessarily becoming governor, but the official listing includes these as full governors. The governor and lieutenant governor are not elected on the same ticket.
Jolene Ivey is an American politician who has served as a member of the Prince George's County Council since 2018, first representing the 5th district from 2018 to 2024 and then the county's at-large district since 2024. She has also served as the council's president since 2023. A member of the Democratic Party, Ivey was a member of the Maryland House of Delegates from the 47th district from 2007 to 2015.
Kay Ellen Ivey is an American politician who is the 54th governor of Alabama, serving since 2017. Originally a conservative Southern Democrat, Ivey became a member of the Republican Party in 2002. She was the 38th Alabama state treasurer from 2003 to 2011 and the 30th lieutenant governor of Alabama from 2011 to 2017.
Chester Clarence "Mac" McCutcheon III is an American politician currently serving as the chair of the county commission of Madison County, Alabama. He was previously the 66th speaker of the Alabama House of Representatives. He is a Republican who served in the state legislature from 2006 to 2022. He was elected Speaker of the Alabama House of Representatives on August 15, 2016. He was re-elected Speaker of the House on January 8, 2019.
Greg Reed is an American politician. He serves as a Republican member of the Alabama Senate, representing the 5th District between 2010 and 2024. He defeated Democrat Brett Wadsworth in the 2010 midterm elections to replace Charles Bishop in the 5th District. Senator Reed served as the Alabama State Senate's president pro tempore from 2021 until he stepped down in December of 2024 to join Governor Kay Ivey’s administration as Senior Advisor to Workforce Transformation.

The 2018 Alabama gubernatorial election took place on November 6, 2018, to elect the governor of Alabama. Incumbent Governor Kay Ivey (R), who took office on April 10, 2017, upon the resignation of Robert Bentley (R) ran for election to a full term and won over Tuscaloosa mayor Walt Maddox. Ivey was sworn in for her first full term on January 14, 2019. This was the first time since 1966 that a woman was elected Governor of Alabama.

Primary elections were held on May 24, with runoffs scheduled for June 21 if a candidate failed to receive a majority of the vote.
The 2026 Alabama Senate election will be held on November 3, 2026. Voters will elect members of the Alabama Senate in all 35 of the U.S. state of Alabama's legislative districts to serve a four-year term.

The 2025 Alabama Senate District 5 special election will be held on a date that will be set by Governor Kay Ivey following the scheduled resignation of incumbent Greg Reed to serve as a workforce advisor for the Governor's administration, to elect the state senator from the 5th Senate district.
