29er World Championship

The 29er World Championship is an annual international sailing regatta for 29er (dinghy), organized by the host club on behalf of the International 29er Class Association and recognized by World Sailing, the sports IOC recognized governing body. [1] [2]

<span class="mw-page-title-main">29er (dinghy)</span> International racing sailing class

The 29er is a two-person high performance sailing skiff designed by Julian Bethwaite and first produced in 1998. Derived from the Olympic class 49er class, it is raced in the ISAF Youth Sailing World Championships. The 29er is able to reach high speeds fairly quickly by having a sleek and hydrodynamic hull and will often exceed the wind speed when planing both up and downwind.

The ISAF Youth Sailing World Championships was first held in Sweden in 1971 and it has been held every year since. It is one of the key events of the federation to help promote top-level youth participation.

The following were the scheduled events of sailing for the year 2017 throughout the world.

The 505 (dinghy) World Championships is an annual international sailing regatta for 505 (dinghy) they are organized by the host club on behalf of the International Class Association and recognized by World Sailing, the sports IOC recognized governing body. The championships typically take place in Europe every other year and then elsewhere in the world on the alternating years.

The following were the scheduled events of sailing for the year 2014 throughout the world.

The ILCA European Championships, until 2020 the Laser European Championships, are annual European Championship sailing regattas in the Laser and Laser Radial classes organised by the EurILCA.

The RS Tera World Championships is an annual international sailing regatta for RS Tera they are organized by the host club on behalf of the International Class Association and recognized by World Sailing, the sports IOC recognized governing body.

The Fireball World Championship is an annual international sailing regatta of Fireball (dinghy), organized by the host club on behalf of the International Fireball Class Association and recognized by World Sailing, the sports IOC recognized governing body. The class gained World Sailing recognistion in 1970 but held three international regatta before that date.

The Etchells World Championship is an annual international sailing regatta for Etchells keelboats, organized by the host club on behalf of the Etchells Class Association and recognized by World Sailing, the sports IOC recognized governing body. The Class gained World Sailing status on 1 August 1974.

The J/22 World Championship is an annual international sailing regatta for J/22 keelboats, organized by the host club on behalf of the J/22 Class Association and recognized by World Sailing, the sports IOC recognized governing body.

The Tasar World Championship is an bi-annual international sailing regatta for Tasar (dinghy) class, they are organized by the host club on behalf of the International Tasar Class Association and recognized by World Sailing, the sports IOC recognized governing body. The class gained World Sailing recognition at the end of 2001.

The Farr 40 World Championship was an annual international sailing regatta for Farr 40 class, they are organized by the host club on behalf of the International Farr 40 Class Association and recognized by World Sailing, the sports IOC recognized governing body. The class gained World Sailing recognition from 1997 until 2022.

The Lightning Youth World Championship is an bi-annual international sailing regatta for lightning (dinghy), organized by the host club on behalf of the International Lightning Class Association and recognized by World Sailing, the sports IOC recognized governing body.

The Musto Skiff World Championship is an annual international sailing regatta for Musto Skiff they are organized by the host club on behalf of the International Musto Skiff Class Association and recognized by World Sailing, the sports IOC recognized governing body.

The RS500 World Championship is an annual international sailing regatta of RS500 two person dinghy, organized by the host club on behalf of the International RS500 Class Association and recognized by World Sailing, the sports IOC recognized governing body.

The Formula 18 World Championship and the Formula 18 Raid World Championship also known as the F18 World Championship and Raid F18 Worlds is an annual international sailing regatta for Formula 18, organized by the host club on behalf of the International Formula 18 Class Association and recognized by World Sailing, the sports IOC recognized governing body.

Julio Alonso Ortega is a Spanish sailor and world champion specialising in two-person dinghy class. He has sailed throughout most of his sporting career for the Royal Gran Canaria Yacht Club, where he trains under coaches Aarón Sarmiento, and two-time Olympic gold medallist Luis Doreste.
