The women's 800 metres event at the 1970 British Commonwealth Games was held on 24 and 25 July 1970 at the Meadowbank Stadium in Edinburgh, Scotland. [1] [2] It was the first time that the metric distance was contested at the Games replacing the 880 yards event.

The winning margin was 0.03 seconds which as of 2024 remains the narrowest winning margin in the women's 800 metres at these games.

Faith Chepngetich Kipyegon is a Kenyan middle- and long-distance runner. Kipyegon is the current world record holder for the 1,500 metres and mile, and the former world record holder for the 5,000 metres. Kipyegon is the only three-time Olympic champion in the 1500 metres race, having won a gold medal each at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics, 2020 Tokyo Olympics and the 2024 Paris Olympics. The swimming events of the 15th FINA World Aquatics Championships were held July 28 – August 4, 2013, in Barcelona, Spain. The competition was held in a long course pool inside the Palau Sant Jordi.
