Awdheegle (also Awdhegele) is a town in the Lower Shabelle region in southern Somalia.

Demographics

Awdheegle is agricultural town located west of Mogadishu on the Shebelle River.

Awdheegle is predominantly inhabited by the Begedi and Garre clan sub-division of the wider (Digil) family. They are one of the major Somali clans residing in the Horn of Africa who are native to South West.

Afder is one of the woredas in the Somali Region of Ethiopia. Part of the Afder Zone, Afder is bordered on the south by Dolobay, on the west by Jerti (woreda)Jarreti, on the north by Elkere, on the west by the Gode Zone, and on the southeast by Barrey. Towns in Afder include Gud'usbo and Hargele.

Bokolmayo is one of the 96 districts in the Somali Region of Ethiopia. The district is located in Liben Zone and found in the middle of Filtu, and Dollo Ado, the biggest town of the Liben Zone. Bokolmayo is the district that host the most refugees in Ethiopia—nearly 200,000. These refugees are Somalis that fled from the civil war in Somalia around early 2009. The Tunni Sultanate was a Somali Muslim Sultanate located in southwestern Somalia, south of the Shabelle river. It was ruled by the Tunni people, who spoke the Af-Tunni. The historical Tunni area corresponds to the modern-day Lower Shabelle region.

On April 2, 2021, Al-Shabaab militants simultaneously attacked Somali National Army bases in Awdheegle and Bariire, Lower Shabelle, killing forty-eight soldiers and dozens of al-Shabaab fighters. Somali forces were able to repulse both attacks.
