Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary is a 9.7-hectare (24-acre) wildlife sanctuary located in Brighton, Tasmania, Australia. Dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, and preservation of native Australian animals, Bonorong actively participates in various conservation projects, contributes to breeding programs, research initiatives, and advocacy for the protection of Tasmania's wildlife. [2] The sanctuary works closely with government agencies, research institutions, and other conservation organisations to make a positive impact on native animal populations. [3] [4] In 2015, the sanctuary received 66,000 visitors. [5]
Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary opened in 1981. Although the sanctuary name is derived from an Australian Aboriginal language meaning 'native companion', the origin of the nation is unknown. [6]
Friends of Bonorong is a registered charity associated with the sanctuary. Friends of Bonorong provides funding for urgent assistance to wildlife in crisis and to support long-term conservation through corporate donations, ongoing partnerships, and personal contributions.
Opening in 2018, Bonorong Wildlife Rescue became Tasmania's first veterinary hospital dedicated to wildlife. [2] [7]
On average, the sanctuary contains about 200 animals from 25 different species including eastern grey kangaroos, Tasmanian devils, wombats, sugar gliders, eastern quolls, sulphur-crested cockatoos, yellow-tailed black cockatoos, tawny frogmouths, echidnas and eastern bettongs. [5]
Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary is accessible via Briggs Road, Brighton with car parking on site. A private bus service called the Bonorong Shuttle departs from the Hobart CBD twice daily. [8]

Freycinet National Park is a national park on the east coast of Tasmania, Australia, 125 km northeast of Hobart. It occupies a large part of the Freycinet Peninsula, named after French navigator Louis de Freycinet, and Schouten Island. Founded in 1916, it is Tasmania's oldest park, along with Mount Field National Park. Bordering the national park is the small settlement of Coles Bay, and the largest nearby town is Swansea. Freycinet contains part of the rugged Tasmanian coastline and includes the secluded Wineglass Bay. Features of the park include its red and pink granite formations and a series of jagged granite peaks in a line, called "The Hazards".
Glenorchy is a suburb of Hobart, in the state of Tasmania, Australia. Glenorchy is bound by the River Derwent to the east, Mount Wellington to the west, Hobart City to the south and Brighton to the north. The city officially begins at Creek Road New Town, in Hobart's northern suburbs, and includes, Moonah, Derwent Park, Lutana, Goodwood, Montrose, Rosetta, Berriedale, Chigwell, Claremont and Austins Ferry. The orange-bellied parrot is a small parrot endemic to southern Australia, and one of only three species of parrot that migrate. It was described by John Latham in 1790. A small parrot around 20 cm (8 in) long, it exhibits sexual dimorphism. The adult male is distinguished by its bright grass-green upper parts, yellow underparts and orange belly patch. The adult female and juvenile are duller green in colour. All birds have a prominent two-toned blue frontal band and blue outer wing feathers.

Rosetta is a residential locality in the local government area (LGA) of Glenorchy in the Hobart LGA region of Tasmania. The locality is about 3 kilometres (1.9 mi) north-west of the town of Glenorchy. The 2021 census recorded a population of 2,833 for the state suburb of Rosetta. It is a suburb of Hobart. The suburb is situated between the suburbs of Berriedale and Montrose and is approximately 15 minutes drive from Hobart. There is a primary school and a high school in Rosetta. The Brooker Highway runs along the eastern border of the suburb, next to the Derwent River.

Montrose is the suburb directly north of Glenorchy. It is also in Montrose where the Montrose Foreshore Community Park is located.

The Hobart Zoo was an old-fashioned zoological garden located on the Queen's Domain in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia. The Zoo site is very close to the site of the Tasmanian Governor's House, and the Botanical Gardens. Although its location is now primarily the site of a Hobart City Council depot, some remnants and archaeological remains of the original Zoo can still be seen.
Moonlit Sanctuary Wildlife Conservation Park is a 25-acre (10 ha) biopark within the Pearcedale Conservation Park located at Pearcedale on the Mornington Peninsula near Melbourne, Australia. It aims to display the fauna that was found in the Mornington Peninsula and Western Port Biosphere Reserve prior to European settlement as well as working towards the recovery of threatened Australian fauna. The park is open all year except on Christmas Day. The sanctuary, as part of Pearcedale Conservation Park, is an institutional member of the Zoo and Aquarium Association (ZAA). It is ECO Certified at the Ecotourism level by Ecotourism Australia.
