Art Whizin (1906-1994) was a former amateur boxer who established the Chili Bowl restaurant chain in Los Angeles in 1931, known for its distinctive shape in the form of a chili bowl. Whizin was a 25-year-old when he established the business on Crenshaw Boulevard near Jefferson Boulevard with funding raised by selling "his wife's wedding ring and his roadster." Other businesses at the time were also modeled with architecture featuring eye-catching architectural depictions of the goods sold including ice a cream cones and coffee kettles.

Whittier Boulevard is an arterial street that runs from the Los Angeles River to Brea, California. The street is one of the main thoroughfares in both Whittier and East Los Angeles. At various times, portions of Whittier Boulevard carried the designation of U.S. Route 101. Whittier Boulevard also carries a portion of El Camino Real. Its west section leading from the Sixth Street Viaduct was demolished in 2016. Currently, Whittier Boulevard carries two Caltrans controlled highways. The portion between Rosemead Boulevard and Beach Boulevard carries State Route 72 and the portion between Beach and Harbor Boulevards carries California State Route 39. The portion of State Route 72 up to State Route 19 was relinquished back to Pico Rivera in the early 2000s and the portion of State Route 72 between State Route 19 and Downey Road was deleted from SR 72 in 1992.
Wilcox Avenue is a major avenue of Los Angeles, running north–south through Hollywood, to the west of Cahuenga Boulevard. It begins to the north of Franklin Avenue from North Cahuenga Boulevard, and then runs south, crossing Sunset Boulevard, Santa Monica Boulevard and Melrose Avenue. The avenue grew primarily as an affluent residential road in the early 20th century, with the building of expensive luxury apartments. Silent actress Rosemary Theby once lived at 1907 Wilcox Avenue. The Mark Twain Hotel, a white stucco hotel named after writer Mark Twain, is located at 1622 Wilcox and was recently (2016) restored and converted into a boutique inn. There are several bars and restaurants including Paladar, a Cuban restaurant and bar at 1651 Wilcox Avenue, and The Nacional, a Havana-style cocktail bar next door at 1645. 1626 North Wilcox Avenue is the location of a company known as Hollywood Mail which rents hundreds of physical addresses for those who wish to make it appear that their business is actually located at that address.
