Dabra (Hindi: डबरा) is a town and municipality in Gwalior district in the state of Madhya Pradesh, India located near National Highway 44 (NH-44). It is known for its cascading landscape and production of dhaan, a type of rice. It serves as the headquarters for both a tehsil and a coterminous community development block. [1]

Dabra is the largest municipality in Madhya Pradesh, with the Sind River located 5 km (3 mi) away. Sonagir, a Jain pilgrimage, and Datia, an ancient town, are located 16 km (10 mi) and 32 km (20 mi) from Dabra respectively. Other nearby places of interest are the Temple of Bamrauli Hanuman Ji, the Dhumeshwar Mahadev Temple, the Baba Thakur Temple, the Vankhandeshwar Mahadev Mandir and the tomb of Pir Baba. Abul Fazal, one of Akbar's navratnas (nine gems), on the behest of Jahangir by Vir Singh Deo, raja of Orchha, was killed and buried in a tomb at Antri (31 km (19 mi) from Dabra towards Gwalior).

Dabra has a 100-bed Government Civil hospital and various private hospitals to serve health-related issues. SRM Multispeciality Hospital, Ketkar hospital, Jagdeesh hospital merged with apollo spectra multispeciality, which is a leading hospital in providing medical facilities in Dabra.

Social work activities

Non Government Organizations such as Nirmal Chaaya Women Welfare Organization, work in Dabra to uplift the underprivileged people. These NGOs are helping to educate poor children through child development and welfare programs, scholarships to the needy children. They provide basic necessary clothing, school supplies like uniforms, books and stationery, etc. They also provide support alongside government programs to help pregnant women, the elderly, and helpless citizens.

Dabra Railway Station is a railway station in Gwalior district, Madhya Pradesh. Its station code is DBA and it is operated by the Jhansi Railway Division. It serves around 2 lakh people of Dabra city, Bhitarwar, Tekanpur BSF Academy and other nearby villages. [5] [6] [7]

It is connected to New Delhi, Mumbai, Bhopal, Agra, Mathura, Varanasi, Kanpur, Lucknow, Haridwar, Chhapra, Gaya, Pune, Nasik, Jammu, Amritsar, Nagpur, barouni, Nanded Sahib, Allahabad, Ferozpur, Chhindwara, Udaipur, Jaipur, Ajmer, Puri, Indore, Jabalpur, Sagar and Bhubaneshwar through rail network. Dabra is connected to Gwalior and Jhansi via NH-44. This is a four-lane highway that connects major cities like Gwalior, Jhansi, Chhatarpur, Khajuraho, Panna, Satna, and, Rewa.

Dabra is located at 25°54′N78°20′E / 25.9°N 78.33°E / 25.9; 78.33 . [8] It has an average elevation of 201 metres (659 feet).

Demographics

As of the 2011 Census of India, [9] Dabra had a population of 237,974. Males constitute 54% of the population and females 46%. Dabra has an average literacy rate of 57% : male literacy is 67% and, female literacy is 46%. In Dabra, 15% of the population is under 6 years of age.
