Auburn is a city in Lee County, Alabama, United States. It is the largest city in eastern Alabama with a 2016 population of 63,118. It is a principal city of the Auburn-Opelika Metropolitan Area. The Auburn-Opelika, AL MSA with a population of 158,991, along with the Columbus, GA-AL MSA and Tuskegee, Alabama, comprises the greater Columbus-Auburn-Opelika, GA-AL CSA, a region home to 501,649 residents.

Once teeming with gold mining activity, the area now offers a wide variety of outdoor recreational opportunities. Whitewater recreation is also very popular on both forks of the river, with Class II, III and IV runs. Auburn SRA is also famous for a number of endurance races that are hosted throughout the year.
The Capitol Corridor is a 270-mile (430 km) passenger train route operated by Amtrak between San Jose and Auburn, California. Most trains operate between San Jose and Sacramento, roughly parallel to Interstate 880 and Interstate 80. One round trip per day runs from Oakland through the eastern Sacramento suburbs to Auburn, in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada. Capitol Corridor trains started in 1991.
Jordan–Hare Stadium is the playing venue for the Auburn University Tigers football team located on campus in Auburn, Alabama. Correction: Gardiner writes in 1854 that the Secret Ravine Post Office is "near the Hawes Ranch." Elisha Hawes lived in Township 9, the 1860 census shows him continuing to receive mail at the Secret Ravine Post Office. Placer County records show that Elisha Hawes and his family sold the ranch in 1867, and that it was located on Secret Ravine near the intersection of what is now I-80 and Rocklin Road, in the area commonly called China Gardens.
