Shangqiu Airport, or Shangqiu Air Base, is a military air base near the city of Shangqiu in China's Henan Province. It is located in Guantang Township, Liangyuan District, 16 kilometres (9.9 mi) west of the city center. The airport was built in the 1930s and was known as Gui'deAirbase, and served in national defense operations during the Sino-Japanese Conflict, and the planning is to convert the air base into a dual-use military and civil airport with an estimated investment of 500 million yuan. The airport is expected to serve 300,000 passengers and 1,000 tons of cargo per year by 2020.

Kong Jun is a lieutenant general (zhongjiang) of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) serving as commander of the Eastern Theater Command Ground Force, succeeding Lin Xiangyang in December 2021. Previously he served as commander of the People's Liberation Army Navy Marine Corps. He is a delegate to the 13th National People's Congress.

The 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China was observed with a series of ceremonial events including a grand military parade as its spotlight to celebrate National Day of the People's Republic of China that took place on 1 October 2019 in Beijing. It was the largest military parade and mass pageant in Chinese history.

The 35th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China took place on 1 October 1984. A military parade was held in Tiananmen Square in Beijing and various celebrations were conducted all over the country. China's paramount leader Deng Xiaoping inspected the troops along Chang'an Avenue in Beijing. This parade was immediately followed by a civilian parade.

Rao Kaixun is a lieutenant general in the People's Liberation Army of China. In July 2019 he has been placed under investigation by the PLA's anti-corruption agency. Previously he served as deputy commander of the People's Liberation Army Strategic Support Force. He was promoted to the rank of major general in 2010 and lieutenant general in 2017.

He Weidong is a general (shangjiang) of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) who is currently a vice chairman of the Central Military Commission (second-ranked) and member of the 20th Politburo of the Chinese Communist Party. He served as commander of the Eastern Theater Command from 2019 to 2022. He was promoted to the rank of major general (shaojiang) in July 2008, lieutenant general (zhongjiang) in July 2017 and general (shangjiang) in December 2019.

Yuan Huazhi is an admiral (shangjiang) of the People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN). He has been Political Commissar of the People's Liberation Army Navy since January 2022. He attained the rank of rear admiral (shaojiang) in July 2015, and was promoted to the rank of vice admiral (zhongjiang) in December 2019 and admiral (shangjiang) in January 2022.

Meng Zhongkang is a former Chinese army officer. He holds the rank of major general (Shaojiang) in the People's Liberation Army Ground Force. As of September 2019, he was under investigation by the China's top anti-corruption agency. Previously he served as political commissar of Jiangsu Military District and a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee.

The 179th Division was created in February 1949 under the Regulation of the Redesignations of All Organizations and Units of the Army, issued by Central Military Commission on November 1, 1948, basing on the 23rd Brigade, 8th Column of the Huabei Military Region Field Force. Its history could be traced to the 23rd Brigade of Taiyue Military District, activated in December 1945.
