El Al was established by the Israeli government in November 1948 . [1] Initially offering a weekly service between Tel Aviv and Paris in 1949, [2] the airline began flying to many European destinations the same year, with services to the United States and South Africa starting in 1951. [1] Following delivery of their first Boeing 707–420 in May 1961 , [3] the carrier started flying scheduled New York City–Tel Aviv flights—the longest non-stop route flown by any airline at the time. Ben Gurion Airport, commonly known by its Hebrew acronym as Notbog (נתב״ג), is the main international airport of Israel and the busiest airport in the country, located on the northern outskirts of the city of Lod, which is about 45 km (28 mi) northwest of Jerusalem and 20 km (12 mi) to the southeast of Tel Aviv. Ethiopian Airlines, formerly Ethiopian Air Lines (EAL) and often referred to as simply Ethiopian, is Ethiopia's flag carrier and is wholly owned by the country's government. EAL was founded on 21 December 1945 and commenced operations on 8 April 1946, expanding to international flights in 1951. It is Israel's second-largest airline, operating scheduled domestic and international services, as well as charter flights to destinations in Western Europe and across the Mediterranean. Its main base is Sde Dov Airport, with hubs at Eilat Airport and Ovda Airport.
S7 Airlines, legally PJSC Siberia Airlines, is an airline headquartered in Ob, Novosibirsk Oblast, Russia, with offices in Moscow. As of 2008, it is Russia's biggest domestic airline, with its main bases at Domodedovo International Airport and Tolmachevo Airport.
Israir Airlines Ltd., more commonly referred to as Israir, is an Israeli airline headquartered in Tel Aviv. It operates domestic scheduled and air taxi flights from Sde Dov Airport, Ben Gurion International Airport, and Eilat Airport, as well as international charter services from Ben Gurion International Airport to Europe and Asia. It also operates VIP flights, and is Israel's third-largest airline after El Al and Arkia Israel Airlines, employing some 350 staff.
Sun d'Or is an Israeli airline brand and former airline with its base at Tel Aviv's Ben Gurion Airport. It is a fully owned subsidiary of El Al which uses the brand mainly for seasonal scheduled and charter services mostly to European destinations. All of their flights are operated by El Al, as Sun d'Or's own license was suspended in 2011.
AtlasGlobal, named Atlasjet until 31 March 2015, is a Turkish airline headquartered in Istanbul, which operates scheduled domestic and international passenger services as well as charter flights, mostly out of its base at Istanbul Atatürk Airport.
Air Cairo is a low fare airline based in Cairo, Egypt. The airline is part owned by EgyptAir. Air Cairo operates scheduled flights to the Middle East and Europe and also operates charter flights to Egypt from Europe on behalf of tour operators. Its main base is Cairo International Airport with the company head office in the Sheraton Heliopolis Zone.
Ovda Airport (Hebrew: נְמַל הַתְּעוּפָה עֻבְדָּה, Nemal HaTe'ufa Uvda; is a military air base and civilian airport in the Uvda region of southern Israel, about 60 km north of the city of Eilat. It is the country's second international airport. Ovda was originally built as a military airport in 1980 following Israel's withdrawal from the Sinai Peninsula as part of the Israel-Egypt Peace Treaty because the Israeli Air Force needed alternative airfields to its Sinai bases. The commercial part of the airport will close on 31 March 2019 due to the opening of Eilat's new international airport.
Jin Air Co. Ltd is a South Korean low-cost airline. As of April 2018 it operates flights to six domestic cities and 26 international destinations. It launched its first long haul route, between Incheon and Honolulu, in December 2015. It has operated cargo services since November 2013.

Ephraim Sne, the Israeli minister of transport, announced last week that Arkia, Israel's largest charter airline, will become the sole designated carrier on the route to Copenhagen. Meanwhile Israir, the country's second charter carrier, has been designated the sole Israeli carrier on the route to Riga, Latvia. A ministry of transport source says that the designation of the two private carriers on the ex-El Al routes, "is only the beginning".
