Fruitcake is the second extended play (EP) and first Christmas themed record by American singer Sabrina Carpenter. It was released by Island Records on November 17, 2023. It was produced by Julian Bunetta and John Ryan.
Prior to signing with Island Records in 2021, Carpenter released various Christmas songs including "Christmas the Whole Year Round" which reached number 17 on the US Holiday Digital Song Sales chart. [1] [2] In December 2022, following the success of her fifth studio album Emails I Can't Send , Carpenter released a Christmas remix of her single "Nonsense", titled "A Nonsense Christmas". [3]
A year later, on November 8, 2023, Carpenter announced that she would be releasing her first Christmas-themed EP, [4] and revealed its track list through a post on her social media accounts. [5] [6] The EP was released on November 17, 2023. [7] [8] On her website, the announcement followed the same aesthetic of her album Emails I Can't Send (2022), being presented in a designed email-style. [8]
The EP begins with "A Nonsense Christmas", a holiday remix of her viral single "Nonsense". [9] [10] Throughout the song, Carpenter sings puns about Charles Dickens, Christmas Tree trimmings, and was described as "goofy and unserious". [10] Carpenter also changed the lyrics to the song to match the Christmas-theme with lyrics "Sounds like blah blah blah" changed to "Sounds like ho ho ho". [11] Carpenter also recorded a new outro for the song. [10] "Buy Me Presents" follows with similar Christmas-themed wordplay and was described as a "bright and bouncing tongue in cheek love song". [10] [12] The song features a saxophone-solo against a "smooth atmospheric production" and is reminiscent of a Hallmark movie soundtrack. [12] [13]
"Santa Doesn't Know You Like I Do" is a ballad and shifts the mood of the EP. [12] Described as a sad love song, [14] and featured a spoken word bridge which was described as a callback to Carpenter's 2022 single "Skinny Dipping". [12] The production of the song was called a "juxtaposition between the snare kicks and gentle production" which works towards creating a sombre atmosphere. [12] This is followed by "Cindy Lou Who" which is named after the How the Grinch Stole Christmas character of the same name. [10] The song tells the story of a heartbreak leading to the singer questioning her feelings about her ex-lover's new girlfriend. [10] [9]
Carpenter follows this with a pop-infused song "Is It New Years Yet?" where she wants to "skip past Christmas because everyone has a partner to spend" it with. [14] The song was compared to "Dance the Night", [14] and sings that "Fruitcake just makes [her] sick". [12] The EP closes with a cover of Irving Berlin's "White Christmas" titled "White Xmas". [12] [8] Carpenter's vocals were called a highlight of the song, being described as an outro rather than a full-song. [12] The song also interpolates "Jingle Bells". [12]

Upon release, the EP was well received by critics. Alex Hopper of American Songwriter complimented Carpenter for not relying exclusively on traditional Christmas songs and for writing original material. [16] Amy Britton of The Indiependent wrote that the record is "a sugary sweet musical feast" and that, although it was full of the "usual Christmas song stereotypes", it kept the artist's essence. My Kind of Christmas is the third studio album and first Christmas album by American singer Christina Aguilera. It was released on October 24, 2000, by RCA Records. The album was recorded from late 1999 to mid 2000, while Aguilera was touring to promote her first two albums: Christina Aguilera (1999) and Mi Reflejo (2000). My Kind of Christmas contains cover versions of Christmas standards, such as "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" and "Angels We Have Heard on High", as well as several original recordings, which incorporate dance-pop elements. The album was produced by Ron Fair, the Matrix, Robbie Buchanan, Barry Harris and Chris Cox.
"Merry Christmas, Darling" is a Christmas song by the Carpenters, and originally recorded in 1970. It was first available on a 7-inch single that year, and was later re-issued in 1974 and again in 1977. The single went to number one on Billboard's Christmas singles chart in 1970 and peaked at number 41 on Cashbox.
"Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree" is a Christmas song written by Johnny Marks and recorded by Brenda Lee in 1958; it has since been recorded by numerous other music artists. By the song's 50th anniversary in 2008, Lee's original version had sold over 15 million copies around the world with the 4th most digital downloads sold of any Christmas single. In 2019, Lee's recording of the song was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame. In November 2023, Lee released a music video for the song, and in December 2023 the song topped the US Billboard Hot 100 chart, marking Lee's third number-one single and making Lee the oldest artist ever to top the Hot 100 at age 78, later breaking the record once again one week later at the age of 79. The song also set the record for the longest period of time between an original release and its topping the Hot 100, as well as the longest time between number-one singles by an artist: 63 years, one month and two weeks.

The EP was first released as a Target exclusive on October 14, 2007, by Big Machine Records. It was released to other retailers on December 2, 2008 and was re-released to Target on October 6, 2009.
A Very Gaga Holiday is a live EP released by American singer Lady Gaga, containing songs performed on the ABC holiday television special A Very Gaga Thanksgiving. It was made available for purchase in the United States on November 22, 2011, exclusively on the iTunes Store and Amazon, and on November 26 in the rest of the world. The EP is made up of jazz covers of the songs "Orange Colored Sky" and "White Christmas", the latter featuring an extra verse added by Gaga herself, and acoustic versions of "You and I" and "The Edge of Glory", both songs originally from the singer's second studio album, Born This Way (2011). She wrote the song along with Amy Allen, Steph Jones, and Julian Bunetta, and the latter handled production. A Dave Meyers-directed music video for "Espresso" was released on the following day. To support its release, Carpenter performed the song at the 2024 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.
