HD 48948 is a K-type main-sequence star located in the constellation Lynx, approximately 55 light years away, based on a parallax of 59.393 mas. At an apparent magnitude of 8.58, it is too faint to be seen with the naked eye. [2]

It has a stellar classification of K3V, which classifies it as a main sequence star (like our Sun) fusing atoms of hydrogen into helium at its core. Estimated to be 11.5 billion years old, HD 48948 has 0.68 times the mass and radius of the Sun. Its surface has an effective temperature of 4,593  K, [2] giving it the orange glow of a K-type star. Planetary system

In 2024, three planets were discovered orbiting HD 48948 via radial velocity using the HARPS-N spectrograph, with orbital periods of 7.3, 38 and 151 days, respectively, [7] derived from 189 measurements over a 9.5-year period from 6 October 2013 to 16 April 2023. Of the three planets, the outermost planet, HD 48948 d, a super-Earth weighing 10.59±1.00 Earth masses, is located within the habitable zone. [8] It is the nearest known super-Earth orbiting within the habitable zone of an F-, G- or K-type star, with the only other nearby examples being HIP 38594 b and HD 216520 c. [2]

HD 187085 is a yellow–hued star in the southern constellation of Sagittarius. It is too faint to be visible to the naked eye, having an apparent visual magnitude of +7.225. The star is located at a distance of approximately 1,010 light years from the Sun based on parallax, and is drifting further away with a radial velocity of +18 km/s.

Pi Mensae, also known as HD 39091, is a G-dwarf star in the constellation of Mensa. This star has a high proper motion. The apparent magnitude is 5.67, which can be visible to the naked eye in exceptionally dark, clear skies. It is nearly 60 light-years away. The star is slightly larger than the Sun in terms of mass, size, luminosity, temperature and metallicity, and is about 730 million years younger. It hosts three known planets.

HIP 14810 is a star with three exoplanetary companions in the northern constellation of Aries. It positioned about 1.3° to the north of Delta Arietis, but is too faint to be visible to the naked eye with an apparent visual magnitude of 8.6. The system is located at a distance of 165 light-years from the Sun based on parallax measurements, but is drifting closer with a radial velocity of −5 km/s.

HD 85512 is a solitary K-type main-sequence star 36.8 light-years away in the constellation Vela. It is about 1 billion years older than the Sun. It is extremely chromospherically inactive, only slightly more active than Tau Ceti. It exhibits a long-term variability and was thought to host one low-mass planet, although this is now doubtful.

HD 181433 is a star with a system of orbiting exoplanets located in the southern constellation of Pavo. With an apparent visual magnitude of 8.40, it is too faint to be visible to the naked eye. It lies at a distance of 88 light years from the Sun based on parallax measurements, and is drifting further away with a radial velocity of +40 km/s. The system shows a high proper motion, traversing the celestial sphere at an angular rate of 0.340 arcsec yr−1.

HD 40307 is an orange (K-type) main-sequence star located approximately 42 light-years away in the constellation of Pictor, taking its primary name from its Henry Draper Catalogue designation. It is calculated to be slightly less massive than the Sun. The star has six known planets, three discovered in 2008 and three more in 2012. One of them, HD 40307 g, is a potential super-Earth in the habitable zone, with an orbital period of about 200 days. This object might be capable of supporting liquid water on its surface, although much more information must be acquired before its habitability can be assessed.

HD 47186 is a star with a pair of orbiting exoplanets in the southern constellation of Canis Major. The system is located at a distance of 122 light years from the Sun based on parallax measurements, and is drifting further away with a radial velocity of 4.2 km/s. Although it has an absolute magnitude of 4.64, at the distance of this system the apparent visual magnitude is 7.63; too faint to be seen with the naked eye. It has a high proper motion, traversing the celestial sphere at an angular rate of 0.272″·yr−1.

HD 131664 is an 8th magnitude star in the southern constellation of Apus with an orbiting brown dwarf or stellar companion. Parallax measurements by the Gaia space observatory provide an estimated distance of 172.5 light years from the Earth. The system is moving further away with a baseline heliocentric radial velocity of +35 km/s.

HD 86264 is a single star with an exoplanetary companion in the equatorial constellation of Hydra. It is too faint to be readily visible to the naked eye with an apparent visual magnitude of 7.41. The distance to this star, as determined by parallax measurements, is 219 light-years, and it is drifting further away with a radial velocity of +7.4 km/s. A 2015 survey ruled out the existence of any stellar companions at projected distances above 30 astronomical units.

HD 148156 is a star with an orbiting exoplanet in the southern constellation of Norma. It is located at a distance of 186 light years away from the Sun, but is drifting closer with a radial velocity of –1.8 km/s. The star has an apparent visual magnitude of 7.69, which is too dim to be visible to the naked eye. A survey in 2015 ruled out the existence of any stellar companions at projected distances from 49 to 345 astronomical units.

HD 164604 is a single star in the southern constellation of Sagittarius constellation. It has the proper name Pincoya, as selected in the NameExoWorlds campaign by Chile, during the 100th anniversary of the IAU. Pincoya is a female water spirit from southern Chilean mythology who is said to bring drowned sailors to the Caleuche so that they can live in the afterlife. A 2015 survey ruled out the existence of any additional stellar companions at projected distances from 13 to 340 astronomical units. It is known to host a single super-Jupiter exoplanet.

HD 10180, also designated 2MASS J01375356-6030414, is a Sun-like star in the southern constellation Hydrus that is notable for its large planetary system. Since its discovery, at least six exoplanets have been observed orbiting it, and some studies have proposed up to nine potential planets, which would make it potentially the largest of all known planetary systems, including the Solar System.

HD 25171 is a star with an orbiting exoplanet in the southern constellation of Reticulum, the reticle. With an apparent visual magnitude of 7.79, this star is too faint to be viewed with the naked eye. However, it is readily visible through a small telescope from the southern hemisphere. Parallax measurements place it at a distance of roughly 182 light-years from Earth. It is drifting further away with a heliocentric radial velocity of +43 km/s.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">HD 190007</span> Star in the constellation Aquila

HD 190007, also known as Gliese 775, is a star with a close orbiting exoplanet in the constellation of Aquila. Parallax measurements by Gaia put the star at a distance of 41.5 light-years away from the Sun. It is drifting closer with a radial velocity of −30.3 km/s, and is predicted to come within 11.8 light-years in 375,000 years. The star has an absolute magnitude of 6.91, but at its present distance the apparent visual magnitude is 7.46, which is too faint to be viewed with the naked eye.

HD 109271 is a wide binary star system in the constellation of Virgo. The brighter member of the binary has a pair of orbiting exoplanets. With an apparent visual magnitude of 8.05, it cannot be seen with the naked eye. Parallax measurements made by Gaia put the star at a distance of 181 light-years away from the Sun, but it is drifting closer with a radial velocity of −5 km/s. The system shows a high proper motion, traversing the celestial sphere at an angular rate of 0.232 arcsec yr−1.

ADS 7251 is a binary star system 6.33 parsecs from the Sun. The components are near-identical red dwarfs separated by 17″ in 2019.

HD 96700 is the Henry Draper Catalogue designation for a star in the equatorial constellation of Hydra. It has an apparent visual magnitude of 6.51, which puts it below the limit that can be seen with the naked eye by a typical observer. Based upon parallax measurements, this star is around 83 light years away from the Sun. It is drifting further away with a radial velocity of 12.8 km/s.

HD 189567 is a star with a pair of orbiting exoplanets, located in the southern constellation of Pavo. It is also known as Gliese 776, CD-67 2385, and HR 7644. The star has an apparent visual magnitude of 6.07, which is bright enough for it to be dimly visible to the naked eye. It lies at a distance of 58 light years from the Sun based on parallax measurements, but is drifting closer with a radial velocity of −10.5 km/s.
