HMS Cattistock, the third ship of this name, is a Hunt-class mine countermeasures vessel of the Royal Navy. She was launched in 1981 and commissioned on 5 March 1982, the third ship of her class.
In 1991, she was placed under the command of Sir George Zambellas, who was First Sea Lord from 2013 until 2016.
In July 1997 she suffered an engine room fire and was under repair at Rosyth Dockyard for 14 months. In September 1999 she replaced the minehunter Sandown in the NATO Mine Countermeasures Force North West Europe. [3]
She was mentioned in the media in December 2002 after colliding with a jetty as she was leaving her homeport of HMNB Portsmouth in late November. She was left with a two-foot (0.61 m) hole in her side, although no crew were hurt in the collision. It was the third such collision that year: the submarine Trafalgar ran aground off the Isle of Skye earlier in November and the destroyer Nottingham hit rocks off the coast of Australia in July. [4]
In 2012 she assisted in the location of two Royal Air Force Panavia Tornados which had crashed in the Moray Firth. [5]
From early February 2013 [6] Cattistock led Standing NATO Mine Countermeasures Group 2, in a four-month deployment to the Mediterranean, [7] conducting maritime security operations and providing force protection, [8] and also taking part in a multinational mine hunting exercise (MINEX 13–1) off the coast of Spain in April, [9] before eventually returning to her home port in early May. [8]
In October 2013 she took part in Exercise Joint Warrior. [10] She took part in further training programmes in February 2014, and in April was engaged in survey operations in the approaches to the Clyde Estuary. [11]
In 2014–2015 Cattistock received a major upgrade, including two new Caterpillar C32 diesel engines, at BAE Systems, Portsmouth, eventually returning to active service in November 2015 [12] [13] after 18 months. [14]
In November 2017 Cattistock destroyed a World War II-era 500-pound (230 kg) bomb which had been discovered 50 miles (80 km) off the coast of Norfolk close to a major North Sea gas pipeline. [15]
In early January 2018, she sailed from Portsmouth to join the Standing NATO Mine Countermeasures Group 1 (SNMCMG1) as part of a deployment to the Baltic. [16] She carried out various operations, including a search around Oslo, in which ten mines and torpedoes dating back to World War II were found. [17] Cattistock finally returned home after four months in mid-April. [18]
Between 2021 and 2023, Cattistock underwent a prolonged refit. She returned to sea for post-refit sea trials in September 2023. [19] In November 2023, Cattistock deployed with the minehunter Penzance and other Royal Navy warships to patrol northern European waters with vulnerable undersea critical infrastructure in order to assist in protecting such assets. In May 2024, the ship docked in Poole Quay [21] ahead of being granted the Freedom of Poole. [22]

She cost £65 million at time of building, which was at the time the most expensive cost-per-metre for any class of ship built by the Royal Navy. Most of this cost went into the research and development of Ledbury's glass reinforced plastic hull.

She was the second vessel to carry this name, the first being a Bangor-class minesweeper of the Second World War, wearing pennant number J15. Blyth served in the Middle East as part of the 9th Mine Countermeasures Squadron.
HMS Shoreham was a Sandown-class minehunter of the British Royal Navy. She was the fifth vessel to bear the name. From 2018 to 2021, Shoreham was deployed at UKNSF Bahrain together with three other mine countermeasures ships as part of 9 Mine Countermeasures Squadron on Operation Kipion. In 2022 she was decommissioned and was transferred to Ukraine.

HMS Brocklesby is a Hunt-class mine countermeasures vessel of the British Royal Navy, her primary purpose is to find and neutralise sea mines using a combination of; Sonar, Mine Clearance Divers and the Seafox remotely operated vehicle (ROV). The class are the largest warships of glass-reinforced plastic (GRP) construction, which gives the vessels a low magnetic signature. In addition to her mine countermeasures activities, Brocklesby acts as an offshore patrol vessel, undertaking coastal patrol and fisheries protection duties.

HMS Chiddingfold is a Hunt-class mine countermeasures vessel of Britain's Royal Navy. She was launched in October 1983 by her sponsor, Lady Anne Kennon, and formally entered the service of the Royal Navy in October 1984. Chiddingfold is a minehunter, and her purpose is to find and destroy mines, not only in a time of war but also in peacetime. There are about a quarter of a million mines still active from the Second World War alone and they pose a major threat to both military and civilian ships. Chiddingfold is able to enter some types of minefields without magnetic mines detonating because she is made of glass-reinforced plastic, and all fixtures within the ship are made of non-ferrous metals, keeping the ship's magnetic signature to the bare minimum.
HMS Atherstone was a Hunt-class mine countermeasures vessel of the Royal Navy, the third ship to bear the name. Built by Vosper Thornycroft shipbuilders at Woolston, Southampton, it was launched on 1 March 1986 by Amy Jarvis, the wife of Pat Jarvis, CB, the Deputy Controller of the Navy at the Ministry of Defence, and commissioned on 17 January 1987. It was the tenth ship of its class.
