Indonesian football clubs in Asian competitions

Indonesian football clubs have entered Asian association football competitions organized by Asian Football Confederation including AFC Champions League, Asian Cup Winners' Cup, and AFC Cup (Indonesian club has never participated in the competition Asian Super Cup, AFC President's Cup, Afro-Asian Club Championship and AFC Women's Club Championship) since 1970.

Contents

PSMS Medan is the first Indonesian club to participate in Asian football competitions, namely 1970 Asian Champion Club Tournament with the result of the fourth place after losing 1–0 to Homenetmen (Lebanon) in the match for third place.

  1. In the 2008 edition, Indonesia were allocated two slots just like the older editions. However, on 12 December 2007, AFC awarded one Indonesian slots to Thailand and the other one to Vietnam, due to delay in Indonesian domestic league and cup tournament. [1]

  2. 1 2 3 Persib Bandung and Persipura Jayapura as champions and runners-up of 2014 Indonesia Super League are actually entitled to participate in the 2017 AFC Cup. But Football Association of Indonesia did not register them with the AFC. [2]

Persatuan Sepakbola Indonesia Jayapura Papua 1963, or Persipura Papua or Persipura, is an Indonesian football club based in Jayapura, Papua. The club was founded in 1963 and currently competes in the Liga 2. Persipura used to always use the Mandala Stadium as their home and to compete in Liga 2 for the 2022–23 season, Persipura use Lukas Enembe Stadium. Persipura Papua is one of the giants of modern football in Indonesia with various league and tournament titles. Australian soccer clubs have entered Asian and Oceania competitions since 1987 where Adelaide City entered the competition as the Australian representative. Since 2007, Australian clubs have participated in this league. For their first five competitions, the A-League was given two spots in the league- one for the champions and one for the premiers. For the 2012 competition, another half a spot was added, with the highest placed team on the A-League table which has not already qualified for the AFC Champions League entering a playoff to enter the competition.

Al Ain FC is an Emirati football club in Al Ain, United Arab Emirates that competes in the UAE Pro League, it has contested in various international competitions and has won two titles so far. It has made the most appearances in the AFC Champions League out any other team in the United Arab Emirates and is by far the only team in the UAE to win a Champions League title after winning the 2003 Asian CL Final.

The 2021 AFC Cup qualifying play-offs were played from 7 April to 15 August 2021. A total of seven teams competed in the qualifying play-offs to decide three of the 38 places in the group stage of the 2021 AFC Cup.
