The International School University of Lagos (ISL) is a fee-charging secondary school established in 1981. [1] The school is a located in the University of Lagos (Unilag) in Nigeria. [2] There was already a primary school in Unilag and there was a need for a secondary school for the children of lecturers and other staff. The establishment of the International School in 1981 and its movement to a permanent site in October 1983 was part of the high points of the University of Lagos.

Contents

By virtue of being a secondary school located within a university, the students have access to quality teaching from well talented and professional teachers that are typically not available to other secondary schools. [3]

It has a rivalry with King's College and Queen's College. ISL alumni have gone on to attend universities around the world, particularly in Nigeria, Britain and the United States. The Past Principals of the school include Mr. Nuhu Hassan (1997-2009), Dr. S.A. Oladipo (2009-2011), Mrs. Adora E. Ojo (2011-2017), Dr. M.B. Malik (2017 - 2021) and Mr. K.O Amusan (2021 till date).

The school is highly developed in sports [4] and has unlimited access to the University of Lagos Sports Centre. Students are able to engage in any sporting activity of their choice. The school has also won numerous national and state laurels -- especially in basketball -- since its establishment. [5]

Admissions

Entrance into International School Lagos is fiercely competitive and applicants have to attend a first round of tests, following which only successful applicants are invited to a second and final stage assessment which includes a tour of the school.[ citation needed ]

The Maritime Academy of Nigeria Oron, Akwa Ibom State was formerly known and address as the Nautical College of Nigeria was established in 1977 by the Federal Executive Conclusion No. EC(77) 172 with assistance from the International Maritime Organisation (IMO). It was established as a training institution under the Research and Statistic Department of the Federal Ministry of Transport. It was declared open for classes on the 6th of October 1979. Folasade Tolulope Ogunsola OON is a Nigerian professor of medical microbiology, and the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos. She specializes in disease control, particularly HIV/AIDS. Ogunsola was provost of College of Medicine, University of Lagos and the first woman to occupy the position. She was also the Deputy Vice Chancellor of the institution between 2017 and 2021. She was acting vice chancellor of the University of Lagos for a short period in 2020 when the university was plunged into crisis as a result of the removal of the Vice Chancellor by the University Council.

Nkiru "Kiki" Mordi is a Nigerian investigative journalist, filmmaker, writer and entrepreneur. She dropped out of school because she was harassed by a lecturer in her school. This ordeal was what led her to shoot the Sex for Grades video with the BBC Africa Eye. The documentary exposed the depth of sexual harassment among Nigerians and Ghanaian lecturers. In 2016, she won the award of Outstanding Radio Program Presenter (South-South) at the Nigerian Broadcasters Merit Awards.

Rufus Taiwo Akinyele is a Nigerian professor of African History at the University of Lagos, and the Vice Chancellor of Maranatha University, Lagos. His research interests cut across the fields of African history, inter-group relations and border studies, and he has published numerous articles in several peer-reviewed journals in these areas. With his studies on the Oodua Peoples' Congress among others, he has earned recognition as one of the leading authorities on ethnic militia across the world. Akinyele is the convener of the International Multidisciplinary Conference on ‘Land and Development’ at the University of Lagos.

The University of Lagos Library is the hub for academic work in the university. All academic related functions such as teaching, research, and learning find their support base in the library where all types of documents, are categorized for easy access to members of the university community. The main library was established in 1962 saddled with the responsibility of complementing the teaching, learning, and research of the institution headed by Professor Yetunde Abosede Zaid. The library moved to its present permanent site in Akoka Yaba, in September 1965. Other prominent (branch) libraries include the Education library, Taslim Olawale Elias library, etc.

Kazeem Olanrewaju Alogba, is a Nigerian jurist and the present chief judge of Lagos State. He was appointed by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in June 2019 as the 17th chief justice of the state.

Yetunde Abosede Zaid is a Nigerian librarian. She is the first Professor of Library and Information Sciences at the University of Lagos, and serves as the University Librarian.
