Inverness is a former census-designated place and now neighborhood within Hoover, a suburb of Birmingham, Alabama, United States. It derives from a Scottish city of the same name.
U.S. Route 280 runs through Inverness and includes many restaurants and shopping centers, along with a major intersection with Valleydale Road (County Road 17).
The Inverness community is only a few miles from downtown Birmingham. The Cahaba River, Lake Heather, and the Inverness Country Club can be found in Inverness. Inverness is mostly located within the city limits of Hoover, with some portions in unincorporated Shelby County.
An F2 tornado damaged business buildings here along with Pelham, Helena, and Indian Springs on March 27, 1994.

Jakolof Bay is an unincorporated community in Kenai Peninsula Borough, Alaska, United States. As of the 2000 Census, the population was 40. The location of this community is south of the city of Seldovia, across Kachemak Bay from Homer. Jakolof Bay is connected by road with Seldovia but neither community is otherwise accessible by road to the outside world. There is a rough gravel airstrip on the beach which is underwater during some high tides. Jakolof Bay was recognized as a census-designated place in the 1980 Census.
Acton is an unincorporated community in Shelby County, in the U.S. state of Alabama. It is partially located within the city of Hoover. It is not to be confused with the village of Acton, approximately 6+1⁄2 miles to the northeast in Jefferson County.
Abbot Springs is a settlement in Shelby County, Alabama, USA. While the community was once unincorporated, it is now part of eastern Westover. It lies less than 3 miles away from the town of Harpersville. It runs along a branch of Old Highway 280.
Acton is an unincorporated community in Jefferson County, in the U.S. state of Alabama. It is a suburban area bordering the city of Birmingham, centered around the intersection of Caldwell Mill Road and Old Looney Mill Road just west of the Cahaba River. It is not to be confused with the former mining village of Acton, Alabama in Shelby County (now within the city of Hoover, approximately 6+1⁄2 miles to the southwest as the crow flies. Initially, this Acton was also in Shelby County before a border adjustment shifted it into Jefferson County.
Eagle Point is a census-designated place in Shelby County, Alabama, United States. It was first listed as a CDP prior to the 2020 census and is part of the Birmingham Metropolitan Area. The area was struck by a long-tracked low-end EF3 tornado on March 25, 2021, damaging or destroying several homes and downing trees. Five people were injured by the tornado.
