Kanyakumari, officially Kanniyakumari, also known as Cape Comorin, is a city in Kanyakumari district in the state of Tamil Nadu, India. It is the southernmost tip of the Indian subcontinent and the southernmost city in mainland India, and thus referred to as "The Land's End". The city is situated 90 kilometres (56 mi) south of Thiruvananthapuram city, and about 20 kilometres (12 mi) south of Nagercoil, the headquarters of Kanyakumari district.
The 16317 / 16318 Himsagar Express is a weekly Express train of the Indian Railways running between India's southern most operational railway station of Kanyakumari to India's Northern Most Operational and connected railway station(as of March 2024) of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra in Jammu and Kashmir. It is currently the 35th longest running train service of world and third-longest-running train on the Indian Railways in terms of distance and time, surpassed by the 22503/04 Dibrugarh-Kanyakumari Vivek Express and 12507/08 Aronai Superfast Express. In 73 hours, the train covers a distance of 3790 km at a speed of 52 km/h, and transverses twelve of India's states halting at a total of 73 stations.
Kanyakumari district is one of the 38 districts of Tamil Nadu state and the southernmost district in mainland India. It stands second in terms of population density among the districts of Tamil Nadu. It is also the richest district in Tamil Nadu in terms of per capita income, and also tops the state in Human Development Index (HDI), literacy, and education. The district's headquarters is Nagercoil.

The Rameswaram Express, previously known as the Boat Mail or Indo-Ceylon Express, is an express train that connects MANDAPAM with the state capital Chennai via Tambaram, Chengalpet, Melmaruvattur, Viluppuram, Cuddalore port, Chidambaram, Sirkazhi, Mayiladuthurai, Tanjore, Tiruchchirappalli, Pudukkottai, Karaikudi, Sivagangai, Manamadurai and Ramanathapuram. During the 1900s, it was a combined train and steamer ferry service between India and Ceylon. Connecting Chennai and Colombo, the system initially utilised a rail-to-sea operation, but changed to a rail-to-sea-to-rail operation. Passengers could buy a single ticket for the journey. Now, it runs from Chennai Egmore to Rameswaram via Villuppuram, Kumbakonam, Tiruchchirappalli, Pudukkottai, Karaikkudi, Devakottai, Manamadurai, Paramakkudi, Ramanathapuram, Mandapam and Pamban.
Tirunelveli City being the district headquarters of Tirunelveli District in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu has a very extensive transport network. Thiruvananthapuram Railway Division (TVC) or Trivandrum Railway Division(TVC) is one of the six administrative divisions of the Southern Railway, Indian Railways. It has its headquarters at Thiruvananthapuram, the capital city of the state of Kerala, India. Thiruvananthapuram Division was formed on 2 October 1979which serves the eight districts of southern part of the Kerala, Kanniyakumari district and some parts of Tirunelveli District in Tamil Nadu. With 104 stations in its territorial jurisdiction, it is the fourth largest out of six divisions in Southern Railway. It is the southernmost railway division of India and manages 625 km of route track and 108 railway stations in the states of Kerala and Tamil Nadu. The major stations of the division are Thiruvananthapuram Central, Ernakulam Junction, Kollam Junction, Thrissur, Kottayam, Ernakulam Town, Chengannur, Kayamkulam, Aluva, Nagercoil Junction, Kanniyakumari,Changanasseri, Tiruvalla, Kochuveli, Varkala,Mavelikara,Karunagappally.
Vivek SUPERFAST Express is a chain of express trains on the Indian Railways network. These trains were announced in the Railway Budget of 2011-12 by the then Railway Minister. These trains were started to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, to be held in 2013. One of the Vivek Express trains, the one from Dibrugarh to Kanyakumari, is the longest route on the Indian Railways network, in terms of distance and time, and is currently the 24th longest in the world.

Station is currently under construction of 1A Platform along with a new entrance. By completing double line from Chingavanam to Ettumanoor, southern railway has achieved its complete stretch of double rail line from Thiruvananthapuram to Mangalore
Nagercoil Junction railway station is a railway junction in Kanyakumari district in the state of Tamil Nadu.
The Manamadurai Junction railway station serves the city of Manamadurai in Tamil Nadu. It belongs to Madurai railway division. It is one of the two major railway junctions within the Sivaganga District; and the other one is Karaikudi Junction which is approximately 60kms north which has four rail branches and a major passenger railhead in the district.
Rameswaram railway station is a railway terminus serving the town of Rameswaram located on the Rameswaram Island in the Ramanathapuram district of Tamil Nadu. It belongs to the Madurai railway division and is an important terminal of the Southern Railway zone. The station links the pilgrim town as well as the rest of the island to the mainland via the highly acclaimed Pamban Rail Bridge.

Dibrugarh–Kanyakumari Vivek Superfast Express is a weekly express train of the Vivek Express series belonging to Indian Railways and operated by Northeast Frontier Railway which runs from Dibrugarh in India's north eastern state Assam to Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu the southernmost state of India. In 74 hours 35 minutes the train covers a distance of 4,189 kilometres (2,603 mi) and traverses through eight states in India. This train is currently the longest train route in India by both distance and time, as well as the 24th-longest train service in the world. The train has 57 halts across its route.
Kumbakonam railway station is a railway station serving the city of Kumbakonam in Tamil Nadu, India. The station is a part of the Tiruchirappalli railway division of the Southern Railway Zone and connects the city to various parts of the state as well as the rest of the country.The station was declared as cleanest railway station in Tamil Nadu and ranked fifth best in the national level in 2016. It is classified as an "'A' category railway station" in the Trichy railway division of the Southern Railway Zone.It is one of the busiest and most revenue generating stations of the Southern Railway zone after Tiruchirapalli TPJ, Thanjavur TJ, Villupuram VM in Tiruchirapalli division. The Shradha Sethu express connected Kumbakonam to Ayodhya. The well-known Mahamaham tank is 1 km (0.62 mi) from the railway station.
The Rameswaram–Kanniyakumari Express is a Superfast train belonging to Southern Railway zone that runs between Rameswaram and Kanniyakumari in India. It is currently being operated with 22621/22622 train numbers on tri-weekly basis. It is the only superfast express train service that originates and terminates within south Tamil Nadu region itself. This train service is mainly introduced to connect two important world famous Tourist Spots of Tamil Nadu and India so that tourist who can able to visit to these places easily.
The Ernakulam–Kottayam–Kayamkulam line is a railway line which runs through the districts of Ernakulam, Kottayam, Pathanamthitta and Alappuzha in Kerala state of India. This railway line starts as a branch line from Ernakulam Town railway station towards Kottayam and joins with the Ernakulam–Kayamkulam coastal line route via Alappuzha at Kayamkulam Junction. This line comes under the Thiruvananthapuram railway division of Southern Railway Zone of Indian Railways. The line has a total distance of 118 km (73 mi). The Ernakulam Town/Ernakulam Junction - Kottayam section opened in 1956-57 and Kottayam - Kollam section in 1957.
