Satara (city) City in Maharashtra, India

Satara is a city located in the Satara District of Maharashtra state of India, near the confluence of the river Krishna and its tributary, the Venna. The city was established in the 16th century and was the seat of the Chhatrapati of Maratha Empire, Shahu I. It is the headquarters of Satara Tehsil, as well as the Satara District. Shriniwas Dadasaheb Patil is an Indian politician and ex-officer of the Indian Administrative Services (IAS). Since October 2019, he is the Member of Lok Sabha from the Satara constituency from Maharashtra, India.

Nana Patil, popularly known as Krantisinh, was an Indian independence activist and Member of Parliament for the Communist Party of India representing Beed District of Marathwada region. He was a source of inspiration for the people. Earlier, he had been a founder of the revolutionary Prati-sarkar formed in Yedemachindra Sangli district of west Maharashtra. Krantisinh Nana Patil established a parallel government in the district of Satara. He died on 6 December 1976.
