Latin dancehall is a style of that is originated in Puerto Rico. The genre is a subgenre of Dancehall and takes influence from reggaeton and occasionally Latin trap and R&B. The genre's popularity began with "La Modelo" and has since spread throughout Latin America.

In the mid-1980s, digital instrumentation became more prevalent, changing the sound considerably, with digital dancehall becoming increasingly characterized by faster rhythms. Key elements of dancehall music include its extensive use of Jamaican Patois rather than Jamaican standard English and a focus on the track instrumentals.

Reggaeton is a music style which originated in Puerto Rico during the late 1990s. It is influenced by American hip hop, Latin American, and Caribbean music. Vocals include rapping and singing, typically in Spanish.

2018–present

After "La Modelo" by Ozuna released reaching No. 3 in Billboard Hot Latin Songs, it became popular and identified as its own subgenre Latin dancehall. [1] Now it's continuing with songs for example "Te Bote", "X" and other songs. On late 2018, Bad Bunny and Drake released "Mia" which peaked at No. 1 in Billboard Hot Latin Songs and No. 5 in Billboard Hot 100 [2] and 6ix9ine and Anuel AA released "Bebe" which peaked which peaked at No. 1 in Billboard Hot Latin Songs and No. 30 in Billboard Hot 100. It is the first single from Ozuna's second album Aura, released in August 2018.

"X" is a song by Puerto Rican singer Nicky Jam and Colombian singer J Balvin. Written by the two singers, Juan Vélez and its producers, Jeon and Afro Bros, it was released by Sony Music Latin on March 2, 2018. It is a Latin dancehall and reggae song, featuring a synth trumpet hook and elements of reggaeton, pop and Afrobeat. A Spanglish version of the song was released on April 27, 2018. On June 28, 2018, a remix version featuring vocals by artists Maluma and Ozuna was released. The accompanying audio was also released on Nicky Jam's YouTube channel on the same day.

"Adán y Eva" is a song by Argentine singer Paulo Londra. Released by Warner Latina and Big Ligas on November 5, 2018, it was written by Londra, Cristian Salazar and Ovy on the Drums, who also produced the song. The song title makes reference to the Abrahamic characters, Adam and Eve. With "Adán y Eva", Londra became the first and only artist to top the Billboard Argentina Hot 100 chart on two occasions, the first time with "Cuando Te Besé" in October, 2018. Additionally, the song also peaked at no. 1 in Costa Rica, Ecuador, Peru, Spain and Uruguay.

It was released through El Cartel Records on November 9, 2018, and reached the top five in Spain and the top 10 on the US Hot Latin Songs chart. After announcing the song, the music video was released hours later on November 7, 2018, preceding the song's release to streaming platforms.

Puerto Rican rapper, songwriter and producer Daddy Yankee has released seven studio albums, two live albums, thirty-four singles, and one soundtrack. He made his debut on DJ Playero's Playero 34 mixtape, released in 1991. He was later featured on Playero's 37 and 38 albums, before releasing his first solo record in 1995, titled No Mercy. Trap is a style of hip hop music that was developed in the late 1990s to early 2000s in the Southern United States.
