Croatia, officially the Republic of Croatia, is a country in Central and Southeast Europe, on the coast of the Adriatic Sea. It borders Slovenia to the northwest, Hungary to the northeast, Serbia to the east, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro to the southeast, and shares a maritime border with Italy to the west. Its capital and largest city, Zagreb, forms one of the country's primary subdivisions, with twenty counties. Other major urban centers include Split, Rijeka and Osijek. The country spans 56,594 square kilometres, and has a population of nearly 3.9 million.
The Croatia national football team represents Croatia in international football matches. It is governed by the Croatian Football Federation (HNS), the governing body for football in Croatia. It is a member of UEFA in Europe and FIFA in global competitions. The team's colours reference two national symbols: the Croatian checkerboard and the country's tricolour. They are colloquially referred to as the Vatreni (Blazers) and Kockasti.
Severina Vučković, better known mononymously as Severina, is a Croatian singer-songwriter and actress. In 2006, the Croatian weekly Nacional listed her among the 100 most influential Croats, calling her "the only bona fide Croatian celebrity".
Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović is a Croatian politician and diplomat who served as President of Croatia from 2015 to 2020. She was the first woman to be elected to the office since the first multi-party elections in 1990 and independence from Yugoslavia in 1991. At 46 years of age, she also became the youngest person to assume the presidency.
Croatia has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 29 times since making its debut at the 1993 contest. The Croatian participant broadcaster in the contest is Hrvatska radiotelevizija (HRT), which has selected its entrant at the Dora festival since 1993, excluding from 2012 to 2018. Croatia's best result in the contest is a second-place finish in 2024.
Veljko Bulajić was a Montenegrin film director and UNESCO Kalinga Prize recipient. Bulajić spent the majority of his life working in Croatia and is primarily known for directing World War II-themed movies from the Partisan film genre. According to the Croatian Public Broadcasting Company, his films have reached an audience of over 500 million viewers worldwide. The top four most viewed Yugoslav films of all time were all directed by Bulajić. MUBI streaming service describes Bulajić as "a creator of made-to-order epic blockbusters".
Zoran Milanović is a Croatian politician serving as the president of Croatia since 2020. Prior to assuming the presidency, he was prime minister of Croatia from 2011 to 2016, as well as president of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) from 2007 to 2016.
Jelena Rozga is a Croatian pop, folk, and electropop singer. Born and raised in Split, Croatia, Rozga was a ballet dancer as a child. She rose to fame in 1996, when she became the lead singer of Magazin, a pop band famous in Croatia. She served as the band's lead singer until 2006, releasing a total of five studio albums. During the ten years, the band released numerous commercially and critically successful singles including "Ginem", "Minut' srca tvog" and "Minus i plus" among others.
Dejan Lovren is a Croatian professional footballer who plays as a centre-back for Super League Greece club PAOK.
Danijel Subašić is a Croatian former professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper. He currently works as the goalkeeping coach of the Croatia national team.
Zlatko Dalić is a Croatian professional football manager and former player. He has been the manager of the Croatia national team since 2017.
Ivo Josipović is a Croatian academic, jurist, composer, and politician who served as President of Croatia from 2010 to 2015.

Franka Batelić, also known as Franka, is a Croatian singer-songwriter. She rose to fame as the winner of the first season of Showtime. She represented Croatia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2018 with the song "Crazy".
Mateo Kovačić is a Croatian professional footballer who plays as a central midfielder for Premier League club Manchester City and the Croatia national team.
2Cellos were a Croatian cellist duo, consisting of classically trained cellists Luka Šulić and Stjepan Hauser. Signed to Sony Masterworks in 2011, they released six albums. The duo played instrumental arrangements for cellos of well-known pop and rock songs, as well as classical and film music. The duo performed internationally and were featured on several American television series including Glee and The Bachelor. They continue to be active as solo performers.
Presidential elections were held in Croatia on 22 December 2019. Social Democratic Party nominee Zoran Milanović narrowly defeated incumbent president Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović in a second round of voting.
