Shochiku and Gaumont will celebrate their 130th anniversaries; Republic Pictures and 20th Century Studios will celebrate their 90th anniversaries; and Studio Ghibli will celebrate its 40th anniversary. Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer's first musical film The Broadway Melody (1929), known for being the first sound film to win the Academy Award for Best Picture, enters the public domain this year.

<i>Society of the Snow</i> 2023 film by J. A. Bayona

Society of the Snow is a 2023 Spanish survival drama film directed by J. A. Bayona and based on Pablo Vierci's 2009 book of the same name, which details the true story of a Uruguayan rugby team's experience in 1972 after Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571 crashed in the Andes Mountains. A co-production between Spain and the United States, the film had a cast composed of Uruguayan and Argentine actors, most of whom were newcomers, and was shot mainly in Sierra Nevada, Spain.
