This is a list of hospitals and health care institutions in the Ashanti Region of Ghana.

Structure

The Ashanti Region has 530 health facilities. [1] 170 of these health facilities are operated by the Ghana Health Service; 71 by missions; 281 by private institutions; and 8 by the Ashanti quasi-government. [1] The Ashanti monarchy operates about 32 percent of all health facilities in the Ashanti Region. [ citation needed ]

The Ashanti capital Kumasi metropolis has the highest number of health facilities in Ashanti region at 38% and Kumasi has a teaching hospital to support the medical training at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital), the West End Hospital, several other private hospitals, public clinics and small hospitals. Kumasi, also spelled as Comassie or Coomassie, is a city and the capital of the Kumasi Metropolitan district and the Ashanti Region of Ghana. It is the second largest city in the country, with a population of 443,981 as of the 2021 census. Obuasi is a gold mining town and is the capital of the Obuasi Municipal District in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. It lies in the southern part of the Obuasi Municipal and is located about 39 mi (63 km) from Kumasi. As of 2012, the town has a population of 175,043 people. The current mayor of the town is Hon. Elijah Adansi-Bonah.

Agogo is a town in the Asante Akim North Municipal District of the Ashanti Region of Ghana. Jacob Kenneth Kofi Kwakye-Maafo, also known as Nana Ohemeng Awere V, is a Ghanaian physician and a surgeon who specialises in Obstetrics and Gynecology and traditional ruler of Assin Nsuta and the chief executive of the West End Hospital, Kumasi. A past president of the Ghana Medical Association, he is an advocate of community health and has helped establish several health centres, rural hospitals and clinics in the Ashanti Region of Ghana notably the Ankaasi Faith Healing Methodist Hospital and the Lake Clinic at Amakom near Lake Bosomtwi. He was a member of the committee set up by the government of Ghana in 2003, tasked with the implementation of the National Health Insurance Scheme in Ghana.

The West End Hospital is a 40-bed private health care facility in Kumasi, Ghana. It is popularly known as the "Kwakye-Maafo Hospital" because of its distinguished services in fertility, obstetrics and gynaecology by the founder, Dr. J.K. Kwakye-Maafo, a medical practitioner and former president of the Ghana Medical Association.

The Kumasi Nurses' Training College, now Kumasi Nursing and Midwifery Training College is public tertiary health institution in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. The college is in the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly. The school is located at the premises of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Kumasi.

Fomena is a small town and the capital of the Adansi North District. The town is the seat of the paramount chief of the Adansi traditional council. The town is known as the place where the Fomena treaty was signed.

Abofour is a town in the Offinso Municipality in Ashanti Region of Ghana. It is the second largest town in the Municipality after the Offinso township. It is in fact one of the most populated townships in the Ashanti REGION of Ghana. Though Offinso is the Municipal capital, Abofour undoubtedly is the economic hub of the municipality by the virtue of having one of the largest markets in the country.

Tafo is a town in Kumasi Metropolitan District in the Ashanti Region of Ghana near the regional capital Kumasi. Tafo is the thirtieth most populous settlement in Ghana, in terms of population, with a population of 60,919 people. Because of the town's population and housing development in recent years, it is debatable whether Tafo is still regarded as a separate town, or already a suburb of Kumasi, the capital of the Ashanti region. The town is near Kumasi, with a distance of approximately 3.3 kilometers to the center of a similar name sounding village named New Tafo and must be distinguished from Tafo. Tarkwa is located just 4.6 km away from Tafo. The city center of Kumasi is located approximately 9.8 kilometers away. Tafo is one of the urban constituencies of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly. The town's parliamentary candidate shall have one direct seat to the Parliament of Ghana.
