The Ashanti Region is located in south Ghana and it is the third largest of 16 administrative regions, occupying a total land surface of 24,389 km2 (9,417 sq mi) or 10.2 percent of the total land area of Ghana. In terms of population, however, it is the most populated region with a population of 4,780,380 according to the 2011 census, accounting for 19.4% of Ghana's total population. The Ashanti Region is known for its major gold bar and cocoa production. The largest city and regional capital is Kumasi.

Originally created as an ordinary district assembly in 1988 when it was known as Afigya-Sekyere District, which it was created from part of the former Kwabre-Sekyere District Council; until the western part of the district was split off to become the northern portion of Afigya-Kwabre District on 1 November 2007 ; while the remaining portion has since then been officially renamed as Sekyere South District. The district assembly is located in the eastern part of Ashanti Region and has Agona as its capital town.

Originally it was created from parts of two former districts on 17 February 2004: Adansi West District and Adansi East District; thus the remaining parts had been absorbed into parts of Obuasi Municipal District and Adansi North District respectively. On 15 March 2018, the western part of the district was split off to create Akrofuom District. The district assembly is the southernmost part of Ashanti Region and has New Edubiase as its capital town.

It was created from the western portion of Afigya-Sekyere District and the western portion of Kwabre District on 1 November 2007. However on 15 March 2018, it was split off into two new districts: Afigya Kwabre South District and Afigya Kwabre North District. The district assembly was the northern part of Ashanti Region and had Kodie as its capital town.

Originally it was formerly part of the then-larger Offinso District in 1988, which it was created from the former Offinso District Council; until the northern part of the district was split off by a decree of then-president John Agyekum Kufuor to create Offinso North District on 29 February 2008; while the remaining part has since then been renamed as Offinso Municipal District, which was elevated to municipal district assembly status on the same year. Asokore Mampong is the capital of the Asokore Mampong Municipal Assembly, a district in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. Popularly known for Kumasi Academy a senior high school and the SSNIT affordable housing projects. The chief of Asokore Mampong is Nana Boakye-Ansah Debrah.
Agona-Akrofoso, sometimes called Akrofonso, is a town in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. The town is about one hour's drive from Kumasi, the Ashanti regional capital. The official name is Agona Akrofoso, in the Sekyere South District, Ashanti Region, Ghana, West Africa. Akrofoso is about 2 miles east of Agona, off the Kumasi-Mampong Road, in the Sekyere South District capital off Agona, off the Agona-Asamang Road. The intersection is at the main Agona market intersection (nkwanta). Coming from Kumasi you make a right turn, before you get to the Agona Police Station, which will quickly be on your left. Coming from Tamale, Atebubu, Mampong, etc., you make a left soon after you pass the Agona Police Station, which will be on your right.
Mampong Technical College of Education is a teacher education college in Mampong (Ashanti). The college is located in Ashanti / Brong Ahafo zone. It is one of the about 40 public colleges of education in Ghana. The college participated in the DFID-funded T-TEL programme. It was established in 1967 as an institution to train teachers at the same location as the Trade Training Centre, which was set up by the British Colonial Government in 1922. It attained tertiary level status in 2007 and was renamed Mampong Technical Teachers College of Education.
