Atwima Kwanwoma District is one of the forty-three districts in Ashanti Region, Ghana. [1] [2] Originally it was part of the then-larger Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma District which was carved out on 10 March 1989 from the Ejisu-Juaben-Bosomtwe District. In 2007, Atwima-Kwanwoma District was created with Foase as its capital which was later moved to Twedie as a result of a supreme Court ruling.

Former Head of State General Ignatious Kutu Akyeampong hailed from the district and is buried in his home town of Hwidiem, a town in the district.

Education

Afia Kobi Girls Senior High School is located at Trabuom. Renamed after the late Asantehemaa Nana Afia Kobi, the school was formerly called Atwimaman Secondary School. It was opened in 1975.

The Ashanti Region is located in south Ghana and it is the third largest of 16 administrative regions, occupying a total land surface of 24,389 km2 (9,417 sq mi) or 10.2 percent of the total land area of Ghana. There is a government hospital, a fire service station, a secondary technical institution and other government institutions like the courts, education offices, health insurance office, post office and the new immigration offices. The Forestry Commission is the second highest revenue earner in the forestry services in Ghana. The Owabi dam also supplies water to the south of the municipality. The famous Barekese dam also located in the Municipality supplies water to about 75% of Kumasi. Politically, the Town is an electoral bank for the New Patriotic Party. Nkawie is the home town of former Ghanaian president John Kufuor.

Atwima District is a former district that was located in Ashanti Region, Ghana. Originally created as an ordinary district assembly in 1988. However on 12 November 2003, it was split off into two new districts by a decree of president John Agyekum Kufuor: Atwima Nwabiagya District and Atwima Mponua District. The district assembly was located in the western part of Ashanti Region and had Nkawie as its capital town.

Atwima Nwabiagya Municipal District is one of the forty-three districts in Ashanti Region, Ghana. Originally created as an ordinary district assembly in 1988 when it was known as Atwima District. Later, part of the district was split off by a decree of president John Agyekum Kufuor on 12 November 2003 to create Atwima Mponua District; thus the remaining part was renamed to become Atwima Nwabiagya District. However on 15 March 2018, the northern part of the district was later split off to create Atwima Nwabiagya North District; while the remaining part was elevated to municipal district assembly status on the same year to become Atwima Nwabiagya Municipal District. The municipality is located in the western part of Ashanti Region and has Nkawie as its capital town.
