The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour (NWMT) is a modified stock car racing series owned and operated by NASCAR in the Modified Division. The Modified Division is NASCAR's oldest division, and is the only open-wheeled division that NASCAR sanctions. NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour events are mainly held in the northeastern United States, but the 2007 and 2008 tours expanded to the Midwest with the addition of a race in Mansfield, Ohio. The tour races primarily on short oval paved tracks, but the NWMT also has made appearances at larger ovals and road courses.
The Southern Modified Auto Racing Teams (SMART) Tour is a Modified stock car racing series racing in the Southeastern region of The United States. The series began in 1989, NASCAR took over the series in 2005. During its time as a NASCAR sanctioned series it followed identical regulations to the Northern NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour.

He is a six-time champion of the Whelen Modified Tour, winning titles in 2012, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2019.

The 2023 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour was the thirty-ninth season of the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour, a stock car racing tour sanctioned by NASCAR. It began with the New Smyrna Beach Visitors Bureau 200 at New Smyrna Speedway on February 11 and ended with the Virginia is for Racing Lovers 200 at Martinsville Speedway on October 26.

His grandfather was the legendary Art Barry, who founded Spearpoint Automotive and SPAFCO Race Chassis, who fielded the #21 car that was piloted to many victories and championships across New England.
The 2024 SMART Modified Tour was the 20th season of the SMART Modified Tour. It began with the Peanut Patch 99 at Florence Motor Speedway on March 2. It ended with the Season-Finale 99 at North Wilkesboro Speedway on October 20.
John-Michael Shenette is an American professional stock car racing driver and team owner who competes part-time in the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour, driving and fielding the No. 8 for his own team.
