The Mahabubnagar-Munirabad section is an ongoing railway section project of the Indian Railways. [1] The section falls under the administration of Guntakal of South Coast Railway Zone and Hubli Railway Division of South Western Railway Zone. This serves as the shortest route to Hyderabad-Hubballi and Hyderabad-Goa routes.

History

The project was initially sanctioned in the year 1997. The 274 km long Mahabubnagar to Munirabad new line project was sanctioned with a latest estimated cost of Rs 3,543 crores. The South Coast Railway Zone portion of the line was inagurated on 9th February, 2023. [2]

This new line project has five sections: Devarkadra – Krishna, Devarkadra – Jaklair, Jaklair – Makthal, Makthal – Maganoor, and Maganoor – Krishna. The new line project will help in expanding the rail network between Hyderabad and the mining belt of Karnataka. Several materials such as iron ore, cement, steel, and many others can now be transported through this alternate route. [3]

Phase-1

A total of 66 km between Devarakadra junction to Krishna Junction is completed with electrification works due to be completed by September 2023. Parallelly, A 65 km railway line between Ginigera Junction to Karatagi is completed with Karatagi to Sindhanur, and Raichur works are currently in-progress.

Gadag Junction railway station is a railway station under South Western Railway in Gadag district, Karnataka. It serves Gadag-Betageri. The station consists of 3 platforms. The station lies on Guntakal–Vasco da Gama section HDN-7A | and as well as it connects Gadag–Hotgi railway line.The Gadag–Hotgi railway line was converted from metre gauge to broad gauge in December 2008. Amenities at Gadag railway station include: computerized reservation office, waiting room, retiring room, free Wi-Fi facility, vegetarian and non-vegetarian refreshments, and book stall. It is a "B" Category ISO 14001 2015 for Environmental Management System certified station on 10.02.2020.

Bagalkot Junction railway station is a railway station in the Hubli railway division of South Western Railway in Bagalkote district, Karnataka, India. The station lies on the Gadag–Hotgi railway line, which serves Bagalkote and nearby towns with 3 platforms and was converted from meter gauge to broad gauge in December 2008. A new line is being constructed between Bagalkote and Kudachi. Railway stations have amenities such as a computerized reservation office, waiting room, retiring room book stall. It is a B category railway station.

South Coast Railway Zone (SCoR) has been announced as the newest railway zone of the Indian Railways and is headquartered at Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. The formal notification for operationalization of this Zone is yet to be issued.

Mangalore–Hassan–Mysore line is a railway route of both Southern and South Western Railway zone of Indian Railways. This route plays an important role in rail transportation of Mysore division of Karnataka state.
