Mahfuzul Haque (born November 1969) is a Bangladeshi Deobandi Islamic scholar, politician, educator and public speaker. He is the former vice-president of Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh, secretary general of Befaqul Madarisil Arabia Bangladesh, Chairman of the Shariah Supervisory Committee of Social Islami Bank, Governor of Islamic Foundation Bangladesh, [1] [2] chancellor of Jamia Rahmania Arabia, Dhaka and president of regional Qawmi education board Ittefaqul Madarisil Qawmia Muhammadpur. He is also a member of the standing committee of Al Haiatul Ulya and was the secretary-general of Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis. [3]
Mahfuzul Haque was born in November 1969, in Azimpur, Dhaka. He belongs to a Bengali Muslim family of Qadis originally from the village of Bhirich Khan, in Louhajang, Munshiganj. [4] His father, Azizul Haque, was the founder of the Khelafat Majlish and first Bengali translator of Sahih al-Bukhari. Mamunul Haque is his younger brother, an influential Islamic speaker and politician in Bangladesh. [5] [6] [7] [8] [9]
He started his primary education with his father Azizul Haque. Then he was admitted to Azimpur Chan-Tara Hefz Madrasa. He memorized the Qur'an at the age of 11 under Abdul Matin. [5]
Then he was admitted to Jamia Qurania Arabia Lalbagh. In 1984, at the age of 14, he joined anti-Ershad movement led by Hafezzi Huzur, and was arrested. [5]
In 1986, he was admitted to Bara Katara Madrasa. Later he moved to Jamia Mohammadpur that was being founded by his father, Azizul Haque. It was shifted to the side of Sat Gambuj Mosque named Jamia Rahmania Arabia, Dhaka. He completed his master's in Hadith from Jamia Rahmania in 1991. In 1992, he went to Darul Uloom Deoband and studied master's in Hadith for second time. [5]
After completing his education, he started his career by joining as a teacher of Jamia Rahmania Arabia, Dhaka in 1993, where he was in the department of "Islamic Law and Research" and received an approved certificate and became a Mufti. [5]
In 2000, Azizul Haque started a madrassa called Jamia Haqiqia and was appointed its director. In 2001, he was promoted to assistant director of Jamia Rahmania and in 2002 to chancellor. [5] In 2005, he was elected Joint Secretary General of Befaqul Madarisil Arabia Bangladesh and on 3 October 2020, he was elected Secretary General. [10]
After being appointed a teacher of Jamia Rahmania he became involved in the politics of Khelafat Majlish. In 2005, he was elected a member of Majlis-e-Shura of this party. He was elected vice-president in 2012 and secretary general in 2013. After being elected the secretary general of Befaq, he resigned as the secretary general of Khelafat on 10 October 2020, as per constitution. [9]
The Bangladeshi law gave him the right to be a member of the Standing Committee of Al-Haiatul Ulya Lil-Jamiatil Qawmia Bangladesh. [11]
In family life, he is the father of four children and all the members of his family are Hafiz. [5]
Faḍl al-Ḥaqq ibn Wājid ad-Dīn al-Amīnī, or simply Fazlul Hoque Amini was an Islamic scholar and politician from Bangladesh. He served as an MP in the Parliament of Bangladesh from 2002 to 2007. He was an expert in the fields of Islamic jurisprudence (fiqh), hadith and tasawwuf. He also held a number of positions on the boards of qaumi madrasahs. He was also the principal of Jamia Qurania Arabia Lalbagh in Lalbagh, Dhaka, one of the largest Deobandi Islamic schools of Bangladesh.
Qawmi Madrasah is an adjective describing one of the two major madrasah educational categories in Bangladesh. The Qawmi madrasahs are not regulated by the Bangladesh Madrasah Education Board. As private charitable organizations, Qawmi madrasahs are supported almost exclusively by donation.
Khelafat Majlis is a far-right Islamist political party in Bangladesh. The party was founded in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh in 1989 by Azizul Haque along with Ahmad Abdul Qadir and former leaders of the National Awami Party and Tamaddun Majlish. Since its founding, it has only ever gained one seat in the country's National Parliament.
Wifaqul Madarisil Arabia Bangladesh is the largest Qawmi madrasa education board in Bangladesh. it was founded in April 1978 after a seminar of Islamic scholars. This organization of Qawmi Madrasas of Bangladesh is also known as the "Wifaqul Madaris". It is an extension of the process that formed the Wafaq ul Madaris Al-Arabia, Pakistan in 1957. "Bangladesh Qawmi Madrasah Education Board" is the largest federation of Islamic seminaries in Bangladesh. Qawmi educational system practices originate from the traditional Muslim educational system of Bangladesh. At present, there are more than 65,000 Qawmi Madrasahs in Bangladesh. As of 2013, more than 20,000 Seminaries across the People's Republic of Bangladesh are affiliated with "Befaqul Madaris". It controls all the seminaries which are run by Deobandi School of thought. Deobandi School of thought is supposed to be the most powerful and dominated school of thought in Bangladesh.
Azizul Haque, also known as by his epithet Shaykh al-Hadith was a Bangladeshi Islamic scholar, politician, writer, and translator. He is the founder of Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis and first Bangali translator of Sahih al-Bukhari. He was vice chancellor of Jamia Rahmania Arabia Dhaka.
Harkat-ul-Jihad-al-Islami Bangladesh, [transl. Jihad movement of Islam of Bangladesh] is the Bangladeshi branch of the terrorist group Harkat-ul-Jihad-al-Islami (HuJI). It is banned in Bangladesh and is a Proscribed Organisation in the United Kingdom under the Terrorism Act 2000.

Muhammad Abdul Jabbar Jahanabadi was an Islamic scholar and secretary general of Befaqul Madarisil Arabia Bangladesh. He has been described as a pioneer to Islamic education in the erstwhile newly founded country of Bangladesh.
Al-Hayʼat al-ʿUlyā lil-Jāmiʿāt al-Qawmiyyah Bangladesh is the government-recognized combined Qawmi Madrasah Education Board of Bangladesh, having the authority to arrange central examinations and to issue certificates. Mamunul Haque is a Bangladeshi Islamic scholar and the Joint Secretary-General of Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh, emerged as an Islamist leader in the late 2010s, particularly following the deadliest events of the Siege of Dhaka. With an ancestral heritage of religious scholarship and political leadership from his father, Azizul Haque, he succeeded his father both as a Sheikh al-Hadith at Jamia Rahmania and as the Secretary-General of Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis. He is best known for his oratory skills and his advocacy for the establishment of an Islamic state and the integration of Islamic principles into government policies. In 2020 and 2021, he led opposition to the construction of a sculpture of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and organized anti-Modi protests, which made him the undisputed Hefazat leader overnight. He faced legal challenges, including 41 cases, one of which was a treason charge, and has been imprisoned three times under the Sheikh Hasina regime. Following the fall of this regime, he participated in discussions with the President and the Chief of Army Staff, which eventually led to the formation of the Yunus ministry, which included a member from Hefazat, A F M Khalid Hossain. In addition to his political and religious activities, he has served as an adjunct professor at Asian University of Bangladesh and is the editor of Rahmani Paigam, a monthly magazine published in Dhaka.
Mahmudul Hasan is a Bangladeshi Islamic scholar, currently holding the position of Chairman of Al-Haiatul Ulya Lil-Jamiatil Qawmia Bangladesh, the government-recognized apex body for Qawmi madrasas, as well as Chairman of Befaqul Madarisil Arabia Bangladesh since 3 October 2020. He is often referred to as 'Mohius Sunnah' for his role in leading the Majlis-e Dawatul Haq Bangladesh, a movement linked to Ashraf Ali Thanwi's reform initiatives, and he is recognized as a Sufi master in the Thanwi order through his discipleship under Abrarul Haq Haqqi, a successor of Thanwi. He has been leading Jamia Islamia Darul Uloom Madania for over four decades and serves as the President of the National Fatwa Board, as well as the Khatib of Gulshan Central Masjid. He has authored a four-volume Quranic exegesis named Burhan al-Quran and written more than two hundred other books, in addition to establishing Al-Jamia, a monthly magazine published in Dhaka.
Shah Abdul Halim Bukhari was a Bangladeshi Deobandi Islamic scholar, educator, religious writer and spiritual figure. He is the former Advisor of Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh, Chancellor of Al Jamia Al Islamia Patiya, Secretary General of Anjuman-e-Ittihadul Madaris Bangladesh, Chairman of the Shariah Supervisory Committee of Shahjalal Islami Bank Limited, President of Organization of Islamic Conference Bangladesh and Organization of Tahfizul Quran Bangladesh, Editor-in-chief of Monthly At-Tawhid. In 2018, he was nominated as a member of the Standing Committee of Al-Haiatul Ulya Lil-Jamiatil Qawmia Bangladesh.
Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim, also known by his title Charmonai Pir, is a Bangladeshi Deobandi Islamic scholar, politician, religious speaker and social reformer who serving as the second leader of Islami Andolan Bangladesh. He is also President of the Bangladesh Mujahid Committee and Bangladesh Quran Education Board, and the Vice President of Befaqul Madarisil Arabia Bangladesh.

He was the secretary general of Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Bangladesh, vice-president of Al-Haiatul Ulya Lil-Jamiatil Qawmia Bangladesh, senior vice-president of Befaqul Madarisil Arabia Bangladesh and Shaykhul Hadith and rector of Jamia Madania Baridhara, Dhaka and Jamia Sobhania Mahmud Nagar. He had played a leading role in the Hefazat movement, Khatam an-Nabiyyin movement etc. He was well-known among the Muslim masses as an Islamic leader. He was also involved in running nearly 45 Islamic seminaries.
Nurul Islam Jihadi was a Bangladeshi Deobandi Islamic scholar, educator and spiritual figure. He was the Secretary General of Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh and International Majlis-e Tahaffuz-e-Khatm-e Nobuwat Bangladesh, Chancellor and Shaykh al-Hadith of Al Jamiatul Islamia Makhjanul Uloom. He was also a member of the Majlis-e-Shura of Darul Uloom Hathazari and Befaqul Madarisil Arabia Bangladesh, founder and patron of many mosques and madrasas, including Jamia Khatamunnabiyyin in the United Kingdom.
Befaqul Madarisiddinia Bangladesh or National Religious Madrasa Education Board of Bangladesh is a government-recognized Qawmi Madrasa Board of Education in Bangladesh. It is the newest of the Qawmi Madrasa education boards in Bangladesh. The board was formed on 8 October 2016 under the leadership of Farid Uddin Masood and officially launched on 15 October. There are over 1 thousand madrasas under this board.
Bangladesh Qawmi Madrasa Education Commission is a commission formed by the Government of Bangladesh on 15 April 2012 to give official recognition to education certificate of Qawmi Madrasas. The commission had 17 members with Shah Ahmad Shafi as its chairman. After the formation of the commission, the activities of the commission came to a standstill for various reasons including disagreement and movement of Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh. In the meantime, the ‘Bangladesh Qawmi Madrasa Education Authority Act, 2013’ could not be implemented in the face of opposition. On 27 September 2016, the government again took the initiative to recognize the education certificate of Qawmi Madrasa. For this a 9-member review committee was formed. Later, the term of the commission was extended by activating the previous 17-member committee. On the recommendations of the commission, the ‘Equivalent to Master's Degree in the Certificate of Dawra-e Hadith (Takmil) of Qawmi Madrasas under ‘Al-Haiatul Ulya Lil-Jamiatil Qawmia Bangladesh’, 2018’ was passed in 2018.

He is the Secretary General of Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh and co-chairman of Al-Haiatul Ulya Lil-Jamiatil Qawmia Bangladesh, the highest authority of Qawmi Madrasah. He is also the Senior Vice President of Befaqul Madarisil Arabia Bangladesh, founding principle of Jamia Darul Arkam Al Islamia and Shaykhul Hadith of Jamia Islamia Yunusia.
