McCowan was a terminal station on Line 3 Scarborough of the Toronto subway. The closed station is located at 1275 McCowan Road, just north of Ellesmere Road at Bushby Drive/Town Centre Court.
In February 2021, the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) recommended the closure of Line 3 in November 2023 and its replacement by bus service until the completion of the Scarborough extension of Line 2 Bloor–Danforth. [2] [3] However, this station permanently closed following a derailment on July 24, 2023, after which the TTC decided not to reopen Line 3 service. [1]
The station structure was built on three levels: Line 3 was on the upper floor, an automatic entrance from the Consilium Place office complex via the Pedway pedestrian walkway was on the second floor, and the station entrance from McCowan Road with the collector and the concourse was on the lower floor. At the time of its closure, 15 TTC bus routes (13 daytime routes and 2 Blue Night routes) plus one Durham Region Transit bus route passed by McCowan station. [4]
McCowan station was the terminus station of Line 3 and lay just west of McCowan Yard (completed in 1983), which stored and maintained Line 3's trains.
Trains used a double crossover before the station entrance, but only one side of the station was used. In earlier years both platforms were used for line-end and westbound trains, but the double crossover allowed eastbound trains to cross over to the westbound platform, making for a more efficient system. The eastbound track was used when taking trains out of service. This allowed the operator to ensure that the train was empty with no one boarding before bringing the train to McCowan Yard.

It connected with Line 2 Bloor–Danforth at its southwestern terminus, Kennedy, and terminated in the northeast at McCowan. Until its closure in July 2023, the system had a ridership of 3,908,000 per year.

Scarborough Centre is a bus terminal in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, serving multiple bus routes of the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) and one Durham Region Transit (DRT) bus route. It was also a rapid transit station serving Line 3 Scarborough of the Toronto subway system until Line 3's closure on July 24, 2023. It is located north of Ellesmere Road between Brimley and McCowan Roads, just south of Highway 401. It was adjacent to the former Scarborough Centre Bus Terminal, which was a station for GO Transit buses and other intercity coach services until the TTC modified the facility for TTC buses.

Accessibility for people with disabilities on the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) system is incomplete but improving. Most of the Toronto subway system was built before wheelchair access was a requirement under the Ontarians with Disabilities Act (ODA). However, all subway stations built since 1996 are equipped with elevators, and elevators have been installed in 45 stations built before 1996. Over three-quarters of Toronto's subway stations are accessible. The original plan was to make all stations accessible by 2025; however, a few stations might not be accessible until 2026.
Transit City was a plan for developing public transport in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It was first proposed and announced on 16 March 2007 by Toronto mayor David Miller and Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) chair Adam Giambrone. The plan called for the construction of seven new light rail lines along the streets of seven priority transit corridors, which would have eventually been integrated with existing rapid transit, streetcar, and bus routes. Other transit improvements outlined in the plan included upgrading and extending the Scarborough RT line, implementing new bus rapid transit lines, and improving frequency and timing of 21 key bus routes. The plan integrated public transportation objectives outlined in the City of Toronto Official Plan, the TTC Ridership Growth Strategy and Miller's 2006 election platform.
Scarborough Centre Bus Terminal is a regional and intercity bus terminal in Scarborough City Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, located near its namesake rapid transit station on Line 3 Scarborough of the Toronto subway. It is served by GO Transit buses. The terminal is near the Scarborough Town Centre shopping mall and the Scarborough Civic Centre. Until 2022, Megabus, and other private coach services used the terminal, but have moved to temporary on-street locations nearby due to subway construction.
McCowan Yard is an inactive rail yard on the Toronto Transit Commission's (TTC's) Line 3 Scarborough of the Toronto subway system. Line 3 permanently closed following a derailment on July 24, 2023.
Durham–Scarborough bus rapid transit (DSBRT) is a future bus rapid transit corridor proposed by Metrolinx for the eastern part of the Greater Toronto Area in Southern Ontario, Canada. The 36-kilometre (22 mi) bus corridor will run from downtown Oshawa to Scarborough Town Centre in Toronto, mainly along Durham Region Highway 2 in Durham Region and Ellesmere Road in the Scarborough district of Toronto. Dedicated bus lanes will be used where feasible. Buses of the Toronto Transit Commission, Durham Region Transit and GO Transit would use the busway. Metrolinx has indicated that the BRT could be easily converted to LRT in the future if required.
