The Meredith Music Festival (otherwise known simply as Meredith or MMF) is a three-day outdoor music festival held every December at the "Supernatural Amphitheatre", [1] a natural amphitheatre located on private farmland near the town of Meredith in Victoria, Australia. A self-funded, non-commercial event that was first held in 1991, [2] the festival spawned Golden Plains, a music festival that takes place over the Labour Day long weekend in March. [3]

At the APRA Music Awards of 2020, the festival won Licensee of the Year Award. [4]

The 2022 festival was the first to occur in 3 years, following no festivals since 2019.

Description

The festival is held on a private property owned by the family of one of the organisers, Chris Nolan [5] near the town of Meredith. Since the Nolans own the site, permanent infrastructure has been built including showers, compost toilets, and recycled water with the surrounding areas set up for usage of tents, vans, caravans or motorhomes. The culture and music of the festival reflects the strength, and diversity of the Melbourne and surrounding music scene. Warren Ellis (musician) (Dirty Three / Grinderman) referred to it as "the world's best festival" in a recent interview. [6]

Ticketing

The event is usually "sold out" before the date. Ticketing is implemented via a system which sees the first allocation distributed through a 'Subscriber Ticket Ballot' - allowing half of the total allocation of tickets randomly distributed to 'subscribers' already on MMF's email list. Subscribers are notified in August and need to purchase their tickets within a set period of time. [12]

The second allocation is sold in record stores in Melbourne, Geelong, Ballarat and the Surf Coast as has been the case in previous years. These go on sale after the Ballot closes. The third allocation is distributed online. [12]

Then...finally...despite all our best efforts, we assume there will still be some disappointed people out there. So...in an effort to mend some potential broken hearts...there will be a finite quantity of tickets issued by Aunty at her complete personal discretion. These will be allocated to some of those that she considers to be, for example, most passionate, or deserving, or unlucky, or having traveled the farthest, or been there the most times, etcetera. These can only be applied for after the rest of the tickets have sold out.

Violent Soho were an Australian alternative rock band that was formed in 2004 in the Brisbane suburb of Mansfield, Queensland, originally under the name of "showroom". For the majority of the band's existence, the line-up was composed of Luke Boerdam, James Tidswell, Luke Henery and Michael Richards. Their sound has been compared to that of 1980s and 1990s alternative rock bands such as the Pixies, Mudhoney and Nirvana. Although being largely described as grunge, the band self described themselves as a "stoner pop" band. The band's third studio album, Hungry Ghost, was certified Gold in Australia in September 2014. Their fourth album, Waco, debuted at number 1 on the Australian ARIA Charts in 2016. The band's fifth album, Everything Is A-OK, was released on 3 April 2020 and also debuted at number 1 on the ARIA charts.

Perry Chapman, better known by his stage name Pez, is an Australian hip hop recording artist from Melbourne, Australia. He attended Kew High School in Melbourne's eastern suburbs. His debut album, A Mind of My Own peaked at No. 19 on the ARIA Urban albums chart.

Paris Wells is an Australian singer-songwriter based in Melbourne. She has released two albums and one EP. Wells has played at festivals such as Falls Festival, Big Day Out, Meredith and Sydney Music Festival. She has supported Justin Timberlake, Rod Stewart, Plan B, Robyn and Jamie Lidell on tour.

In November 2011, the band was signed by Albert Productions, but moved to Island Records for the release of its debut album. At the ARIA Music Awards of 2013 the group were nominated for Best Independent Release and Best Dance Release for the album; and Best Video for "Fred Astaire", which was directed by Andrew Nowrojee.

Olivia Jayne Bartley, who also performs as Olympia, is an Australian art-pop singer-songwriter-guitarist. She released her debut studio album Self Talk in April 2016 which received an ARIA Award nomination at the ARIA Music Awards of 2016.
