Miss Trinidad and Tobago is a national beauty pageant that has been held annually since 1954. The contest is meant to select a suitable delegate from the twin island republic, to compete in the Miss World pageant. The nation has one Miss World, Miss World 1986, Giselle Laronde.
Miss Trinidad and Tobago registered trademark started in 1954 exclusively for Miss World. The first Miss Trinidad and Tobago contest started in 1954 where the eventual winner, Seeta Indranie Mahabir represented the British Commonwealth country at the fourth edition of the contest. Trinidad and Tobago have never withdrawn from the Miss World contest since the 70's. It is the only international contest (Miss World) that they have been consistent in sending a representative to. The Miss World brand is the most established pageant brand in the country. According to Google trends, T&T is ranked 4th as per most searches for Miss World. The British High Commissioner in Trinidad and Tobago (1950's to 1970's) were responsible for sending Miss Trinidad and Tobago winner to Miss World. Then in 1979, they gave the rights to local socialite and businesswoman, Kim Sabeeny. Kim Sabeeny died in 1999. Peter Elias then took over the franchise with Trinidad and Tobago first Miss World, Giselle Laronde. Peter Elias resigned after Gabrielle Walcott placed 2nd runner-up at the 58th edition of the Miss World contest. He gave the directorship to Micheal Raghunanan and Daniel Seebaran in 2009. In 2013, Athaliah Samuel held the franchise and there was a dispute between the franchise holder and the then-titleholder, Shereece Villafana, who was then stripped of her title by the national franchise holder after competing in Miss World. In 2014, Vanessa Manoo and Nicaraguan Businessman, Gregory Lewin took over the company for the next three years. The current directors of Miss T&T Company are Charu Lochan Dass under the tutelage of Brian Gopaul and Dr. Reiaz Mohammed (Vice National Director) who took over the organisation for Miss Trinidad and Tobago in 2018.

Giselle Jeanne-Marie Laronde-West is a Trinidadian model, Stenographer and beauty queen who won Miss World 1986, representing Trinidad and Tobago. She became the second woman from that nation to win an international beauty pageant, after Janelle Commissiong Miss Universe 1977 and the only one to date, to win Miss World. The pageant was held in London, UK at the Royal Albert Hall. In that year, the US was represented by aspiring actress Halle Berry.

Miss World 1987, the 37th edition of the Miss World pageant, was held on 12 November 1987 at the Royal Albert Hall in London, UK. The winner was Ulla Weigerstorfer from Austria. She was crowned by Miss World 1986, Giselle Jeanne-Marie Laronde of Trinidad and Tobago. Runner-up was Albani Josefina Lozada Jiménez from Venezuela, and third was Anna Margrét Jónsdóttir from Iceland.
Miss World 1989, the 39th edition of the Miss World pageant, was held on 22 November 1989 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. 78 contestants took part in the pageant. It was the first time in history that Miss World ventured overseas. It was also the first time the Soviet Union has sent a contestant in any major pageant. The winner was Aneta Kręglicka of Polish People's Republic, who was the first Eastern European person to win the competition. She was crowned by Miss World 1988, Linda Pétursdóttir of Iceland.
Miss World 1986, the 36th edition of the Miss World pageant, was held on 13 November 1986 at the Royal Albert Hall in London, United Kingdom. The winner was Giselle Laronde from Trinidad and Tobago. She was crowned by Miss World 1985, Hólmfríður Karlsdóttir of Iceland. Runner-up was Pia Rosenberg Larsen representing Denmark and third was Chantal Schreiber from Austria.
General elections were held in Trinidad and Tobago on 5 November 2007. Nomination day was 15 October. Five parties contested the elections; the ruling People's National Movement, the official opposition United National Congress–Alliance, the Congress of the People, the Tobago United Front–Democratic Action Congress and the Democratic National Assembly. Five independent candidates also ran.

Rolene Strauss of South Africa crowned her successor Mireia Lalaguna of Spain at the end of the event. It was the first time in the history of Miss World that Spain won the pageant.

Miss World 2016, the 66th edition of the Miss World pageant, was held on 18 December 2016, at the MGM National Harbor, Oxon Hill, Maryland, United States. 117 contestants from all over the world competed for the crown. Mireia Lalaguna of Spain crowned her successor Stephanie Del Valle of Puerto Rico at the end of the event. It was the second time that the Miss World pageant held in the United States. It was the second time where Puerto Rico won Miss World, after Wilnelia Merced in 1975.
