Monster Media AS is a Norwegian production group that produces films, commercials and TV programmes. It was founded by Olav Øen, Trond Kvernstrøm and Edward Dreyer at the end of 2001 and was active in the market from the beginning of 2002.
In May 2023, it was announced that the companies Monster and Fremantle would merge into one company, and that the new company would keep Monster as its company name. [1] The CEO of the company is Ingvild Daae.
Monster produces programs for Norwegian and international TV channels, and is behind Gullruten , 4-star dinner , Datoen and Who do you think you are?.
Monster has won awards [ citation needed ] for series about the Orderud murders and the Estonia shipwreck.
The group eventually consisted of the subsidiaries Monster Entertainment and Monster Scripted, which were responsible for the actual production within TV and film production respectively. Monster announced in a press release in November 2019 that the company would merge Monster, Monster Entertainment and Monster Scripted into one company. [2]
Together with Finland's largest production company, Varesvuo Group, the Danish production company Gong and the private investment company Cap-Man, Monster established the company A Nice Company in 2008 as a new Nordic production house within TV, film and advertising. Cap-Man was the majority owner of the company, but in 2013 MTG (Modern Times Group) - which also owned TV3 and the production company Strix - became the new majority owner of the company. [3]
In 2018, Monster and the rest of MTG's TV operations were transferred to Nordic Entertainment Group (NENT), which was created after the merger between MTG and TDC was not approved. [4] In connection with the transfer, A Nice Company changed its name to Nordic Entertainment Studios Norway. [5] In September 2021, Monster, together with 11 other production companies in the Nordics, was sold to Fremantle (company). [6]
In May 2023, it was announced that the companies Monster and Fremantle Norway would merge, and that the merged company would be called Monster. [1]
