As of the census [4] of 2000, there were 1,338 people, 511 households, and 388 families residing in the township. The population density was 36.2 inhabitants per square mile (14.0/km2). There were 576 housing units at an average density of 15.6/sq mi (6.0/km2). The racial makeup of the township was 99.18% White, 0.07% African American, 0.15% Native American, 0.52% Asian, and 0.07% from other races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.45% of the population.
There were 511 households, out of which 30.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 64.6% were married couples living together, 7.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 23.9% were non-families. 20.0% of all households were made up of individuals, and 9.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.62 and the average family size was 3.01.
In the township the population was spread out, with 23.8% under the age of 18, 5.7% from 18 to 24, 29.0% from 25 to 44, 26.3% from 45 to 64, and 15.2% who were 65 years of age or older.
