"Waves" was sent to US dance radio by Ultra Music on 14 April 2014. The remix was the fourth best-selling song of 2014 in the UK, selling over 800,000 copies.

The song, which was produced by frequent collaborators Sonny Digital and Metro Boomin, originally mixed by Justin Childs, and features guest vocals by Ousala Aleem and from Canadian rapper Drake, was released as the first single from his debut extended play (EP), ILoveMakonnen (2014). On March 4, 2015, "Tuesday" was certified platinum by the RIAA, with over 1 million sales. German DJ Robin Schulz has released five studio albums, two DJ mixes, 40 singles and one promotional single. Schulz achieved his worldwide breakthrough with his remix of Mr. Probz's "Waves" (2014), which reached the top ten of the charts in over ten countries, while further peaking within the top ten in various other. It was also certified—among others—Platinum in both the United Kingdom and the United States. While the disc jockey's follow-up recording, "Prayer in C" (2014), was met with similar commercial acclaim, two fellow singles from his debut studio album Prayer (2015) were released, including a collaboration with Jasmine Thompson.

The song was written by Alessandra Günthardt, Daniel Deimann, Fredrik Samsson, Guido Kramer, Jürgen Dohr, Oliver Lundström, Robin Schulz, Stefan Dabruck and Kiddo.

"Jerk" is a song by American singer Oliver Tree, originally released on July 17, 2020, as part of his debut studio album Ugly Is Beautiful. Upon release, the song largely stood out to music critics reviewing the album. Noted for its "groan haunts", Pitchfork writer Cat Zhang drew comparisons to Billie Joe Armstrong, while NME's Ben Jolly described the song as "an anti-bullying anthem-in-waiting". Tree sings about his experiences of being an outcast and eventually realizes that his hatred for jerks is "a double-edged sword".
