Ramdas Madhava Pai (born 17 September 1935) is an Indian health administrator and the incumbent Chancellor at the Manipal Academy of Higher Education, and chairman of the Manipal Education and Medical Group.
Pai graduated with his MBBS from Karnatak University in 1958. [1] He later graduated from Temple University with his Master of Health Administration.
In 1961, he returned to Manipal to become the administrator of Kasturba Hospital, the teaching hospital of Kasturba Medical College. After the death of his father T. M. A. Pai in 1979, he became the head of the group and later took over as chancellor in due course Chancellor of the Manipal Academy of Higher Education [2] and the Chairman of the Manipal Education and Medical Group. [3] He is also the Pro-Chancellor of Sikkim Manipal University [4] and president of T. A. Pai Management Institute [1] and chancellor of the Manipal Academy of General Education, Manipal.
His efforts led to MAHE getting the status of a deemed university granted by the University Grants Commission in 1993. [5] Manipal Education and Medical Group under his watch has led to exponential growth. [6]
He has previously served as a member of the Executive Council of Assam University, the academic senate of Mangalore University, and the National Assessment and Accreditation Council.
In 2000, he was nominated by the Union Minister of Human Resource Development to a special six-member advisory committee to the Department of Higher Education. [7]
In 2001, Pai set up the Manipal Foundation to run the university's philanthropic efforts. [8]
His son Ranjan Pai is an educationist and healthcare baron, who controls the Manipal Group. [9]
Pai’s contributions to education have been recognised nationally and internationally. He has received a number of awards and honours in recognition of his contribution to education, healthcare, business and community service.

Manipal is a suburb and university town within Udupi, in coastal Karnataka, India. It is one of the cleanest towns in India. Manipal is located five kilometres away from the centre of Udupi City, in Udupi District, Karnataka (state) in south western India. It is administered by the Udupi City Municipality. The suburb is located in coastal Karnataka, 62 km north of Mangalore and 8 km east of the Arabian Sea. From its location on a plateau, at an altitude of about 75 m above sea level, it commands a panoramic view of the Arabian Sea to the west and the Western Ghats to the east.
Kasturba Medical College, Manipal and Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore, together known as KMC, are two private medical colleges in coastal Karnataka, India, established in 1953. The colleges were established as a single unit and later became two colleges with their own teaching hospitals. KMC was the first self-financing medical college in India. The colleges are constituent units of Manipal Academy of Higher Education, formerly known as Manipal University, an Institution of Eminence Deemed to be University.
Udupi district is an administrative subdivision in the Karnataka state of India, with the district headquarters in the city of Udupi. It is situated in the Canara old north malabar coastal region, there are seven taluks, 233 villages and 21 towns in Udupi district. The three northern tehsils of Udupi, Kundapur and Karkala, were partitioned from Dakshina Kannada district to form Udupi district on 25 August 1997. Bantwal Vaikunta Baliga (1895–1968) was a Konkani lawyer who played an active role in Indian governance and politics. He was actively involved in India’s struggle for freedom and worked several times with Mahatma Gandhi. He was elected as MLA and subsequently became the Law Minister and Speaker of Mysore State Assembly. He died while he was the Speaker of Mysore State assembly. His term as Speaker spanned from March 1962 to June 1968. He is remembered for his parliamentary acumen, knowledge of legislative business, and understanding of parliamentary procedure. As the Speaker he was known to be very strict in conducting the House proceedings.

Tulu Nadu State movement is aimed at increasing Tulu Nadu's influence and political power through the formation of separate Tulu Nadu state from Karnataka and Kerala. Tulu Nadu is a region on the south-western coast of India. It consists of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts of Karnataka, and Kasargod district up to the Chandragiri river in Kerala. The Chandragiri river is traditionally considered to be a boundary between Tulu Nadu and Kerala from the fourteenth century AD onwards. The first call for separate Tulu Nadu state was made just after the Quit India Movement in 1942 by Srinivas Updhyaya Paniyadi, a banker and a press owner from Udupi. Mangalore is the largest and the chief city of Tulu Nadu. Tulu activists have been demanding a separate Tulu Nadu state since the late 2000s, considering language and culture as the basis for their demand.
