Ratnasundarsuri (born 5 January 1948) is an Indian Jain monk, activist and Gujarati language writer. He is well known for his lectures on spirituality and social issues. [1]

Biography

Ratnasundarsuri was born at Depla village near Palitana (now in Gujarat), India to Dalichand and Champaben. His birth name was Rajni. He was initiated in asceticism in 1967 under Bhuvanbhanusuri. He was conferred the title of Acharya in 1996. He spent four years in Delhi starting 2006. In 2011, he started a petition to ban meat export from India. [2] In July 2013, he filed a petition to the Rajya Sabha to ban sex education and online pornography. [3]

Works

In spite of being a religious saint, he has written many visionary books for the socio-cultural upliftment of the individual as well as society at large. Till today, he has written 400 books on variety of subjects and holds the Golden Book of World Records for writing more than 300 books in a single language (Gujarati). [4] Lakhi Rakho Aras Ni Takati Par is his most acclaimed book. It is translated in 20 languages including Hindi, English, Urdu, Marathi, French and German. His lectures on the television are popular. Recognition

In 2017, he was awarded Padma Bhushan, the third highest civilian award by Government of India for his contribution in field of spirituality. [1] [5] [6]

Sukhlal Sanghvi, also known as Pandit Sukhlalji, was a Jain scholar and philosopher. He belonged to the Sthanakvasi sect of Jainism. Pandit Sukhlal lost his eyesight at the age of sixteen on account of smallpox. However, he persisted and became profoundly versed in Jain logic and rose to become a professor at Banaras Hindu University. Paul Dundas calls him one of the most incisive modern interpreters of Jain philosophy. Dundas notes that Sanghavi represents what now seems to be a virtually lost scholarly and intellectual world. He was a mentor for famous Jain scholar Padmanabh Jaini. During his lifetime he won such awards as the Sahitya Akademi Award and won recognition from the Government of India by getting Padma Bhushan award. Sukhlalji was also known as Pragnachaksu because he was so vastly learned despite being visually disabled.

Jaishankar Bhudhardas Bhojak, better known by his theatre name Jaishankar Sundari , was an Indian actor and director of Gujarati theatre. Starting at the young age, he rose to fame for his roles of female impersonator in early Gujarati plays. He retired from acting in 1932 but returned to theatre direction and teaching in 1948. He directed and acted in several successful plays. He was awarded the Ranjitram Suvarna Chandrak in 1951 and the Padma Vibhushan in 1971.

The Government of India awarded him the fourth highest civilian honour of the Padma Shri, in 2016, for his contributions to medical science.

Dadudan Pratapdan Gadhvi, also known as Kavi Dad, was a Gujarati poet and folk singer from Gujarat, India. He was awarded the Padma Shri in 2021.
