This class of small shunters has 150 members. They were delivered by Arbel Fauvet Rail in the early 1990s and seem to have been spread across France. They have the 0-4-0 ("B") wheel arrangement, 200 kW diesel engines and hydraulic transmission.

The SNCF class BB 15000 is a class of 25 kV 50 Hz electric locomotives built by Alstom and MTE between 1971 and 1978. Initially 65 locomotives strong, the series was widely used on the whole French 25 kV network before losing services to TGV trains when the LGV Est went into service in 2007.
The SNCF Class BB 7200 is a 1.5 kV DC electric locomotive operated by the SNCF in France. It is the DC version of the 'Nez Cassé' family of locomotives built between 1976 and 1985 by Alstom. They are rated for 4,040 kW (5,420 hp) of continuous power. SNCF Class BB 15000 is the AC version while the Class BB 22200 is a dual-voltage version. Another relative is the NS Class 1600 operated in the Netherlands, a DC locomotive based on the BB 7200. Intended primarily for passenger service, increasing numbers are being allocated for freight service with lower-geared bogies as passenger services are taken from locomotive-hauled coaches by TGV services. BB 7200 operations are limited to the French 1.5 kV DC electrified network in southeastern France, from Paris southwards. In 2016 48 were allocated to freight, 58 to intercity passenger service, 50 to regional passenger service, and two to auto-train service.
The SNCF Class BB 17000 B-B AC electric locomotives built between 1965 and 1968. It performs suburban duties on railway lines around Paris, notably VB2N carriages. They are monophase locomotives and have the nickname "danseuses" or "dancers". By 2020 the 105-strong class of locomotives have all been withdrawn.

The SNCF Class CC 72000 was a class of C′C′ diesel-electric locomotives designed and built by French manufacturing conglomerate Alsthom. They are regarded as being the most powerful class of diesel locomotives to be built in France.
The Class BB 9400 was an electric locomotive of the SNCF. It was used to pull L’Aquilon, a high-speed passenger train between Paris, Dijon and Lyon-Perrache. The locomotives were given the nickname "Vespa", as they were very lightweight. They were one of a series of locomotives called the "BB Jacquemin", as they used trucks designed by engineer André Jacquemin. The locomotive itself was designed by noted French railway designer Paul Arzens. In later years they hauled passenger trains on the difficult Béziers–Neussargues line.
The SNCF Class BB 63500 are a class of centre cab diesel locomotives built for SNCF between 1956 and 1971 by Brissonneau & Lotz. They are a slightly more powerful version of the BB 63400. A total of 580 locomotives were built. Four units, numbers BB 63896, BB 63901, BB 63902 and BB 63906, were equipped with electric train heating and based at La Plaine for operating trip workings of passenger trains between Paris Gare du Nord and Paris Gare de Lyon round the Petit Ceinture. Three batches, numbered BB 63721–BB 63750, BB 63811–BB 63855 and BB 63981–BB 64020, totalling 115 locomotives, were equipped for multiple working.
The SNCF Class BB 66000 is a class of 318 centre cab diesel locomotives built for SNCF by a consortium of CAFL, CEM, Alsthom, Fives-Lille and SACM between 1960 and 1968.
The SNCF Class BB 71000 is a class of 30 centre-cab Bo-Bo diesel shunting locomotives. They were the last locomotives in service with SNCF to feature side rods. The class was withdrawn from traffic between 1998 and 1999. A number were sold on for industrial use.
The SNCF Class BB 325 was a class of 25 electric locomotives built between 1946 and 1948. The class was a development of the pre-war Midi Class E4700 and very similar to the Class BB 300. As delivered they were numbered 0325–0355. Under the 1950 renumbering scheme they became BB 325–BB 355.
The SNCF Class CC 1100 was a class of 12 centre cab electric shunting locomotives, the first two of which were originally ordered for the PO-Midi. Originally numbered E 1001–E 1012, under the 1950 SNCF renumbering they became CC 1101–CC 1112. They were built by Batignolles-Châtillon and Oerlikon, the first two, E 1001 and E 1002, in 1937 and the remaining ten, E 1003–E 1012, between 1943 and 1948. Completely rebuilt between 1989 and 1995, the last was withdrawn from service in 2005.
