Saicus Air was a cargo airline based in Madrid, Spain. It took over Flyant aircraft after that airline ceased operations in 2008. [1]
After ceasing operations in December 2008 Flyant Cargo was sold to New Iberital, a Catalan logistics group, for the symbolic amount of one Euro. The group continued on the cargo business and named the new airline Saicus Air. Cargo operations began in October 2009, mainly covering Peninsular Spain and the Canary Islands. [1]
In 2010 Saicus Air made an attempt to begin passenger services. It announced that it intended to acquire two McDonnell Douglas MD-87 formerly operated by Pronair. Only one of the planes, however, became part of the fleet in July 2010. In November 2010 Saicus Air announced that it would be in charge of running Bissau Airport in Guinea Bissau and that it would inaugurate twice-weekly passenger flights between Bissau, Las Palmas and Madrid. [2] However, in the first week of December 2010—less than a month after revealing its ambitious projects—the airline ceased operations. [3] Its MD-87 was apparently abandoned at Adolfo Suárez Madrid–Barajas Airport at that time. [4]
Martinair is a Dutch cargo airline headquartered and based at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol and a subsidiary of Air France–KLM. The airline was founded in 1958 by Martin Schröder. Since 2011, Martinair has operated entirely as a cargo airline with scheduled services to 20 destinations worldwide and additional charter flights. Prior to that date, passenger flights were also operated.

Futura International Airways was an airline with its head office in the Zona Facturación on the property of Palma de Mallorca Airport in Palma de Mallorca, Spain. It operated scheduled services and charter flights for tour operators and other airlines, in Europe, as well as wet lease and ad hoc charters. Its main base was Palma de Mallorca Airport. After failing to re-finance itself the company ceased trading on the 8 September 2008, leaving many passengers stranded in and around Spain.
Arrow Air was an American passenger and cargo airline based in Building 712 on the grounds of Miami International Airport (MIA) in unincorporated Miami-Dade County, Florida. At different times over the years, it operated over 90 weekly scheduled cargo flights, had a strong charter business and at one point operated scheduled international and domestic passenger flights. Its main base was Miami International Airport. Arrow Air ceased operations on June 29, 2010, and filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on July 1, 2010. It was then liquidated.
The McDonnell Douglas MD-80 is a series of single-aisle airliners developed by McDonnell Douglas from the DC-9. Stretched, heavier, and with higher bypass Pratt & Whitney JT8D-200 engines, the DC-9 Series 80 was launched in October 1977. It made its first flight on October 18, 1979 and was certified on August 25, 1980. It was delivered to launch customer Swissair on September 13, 1980, which introduced it into commercial service on October 10, 1980.
The McDonnell Douglas MD-11 is an American tri-jet wide-body airliner manufactured by American McDonnell Douglas (MDC) and later by Boeing. Following DC-10 development studies, the MD-11 program was launched on December 30, 1986. Assembly of the first prototype began on March 9, 1988. It rolled out in September 1989 and made its maiden flight on January 10, 1990. FAA certification was achieved on November 8. The first delivery was to Finnair on December 7, 1990, and it entered service on December 20.

Spantax S.A. was a Spanish leisure airline headquartered in Madrid that operated from 1959 to 1988. Spantax was one of the first Spanish airlines to operate tourist charter flights between European and North American cities and popular Spanish holiday destinations and was considered a major force in developing 20th-century mass tourism in Spain. Its popularity and image faded from the 1970s onward when a series of crashes and incidents revealed safety deficits, which, combined with rising fuel costs and increasing competition, resulted in the company facing severe financial difficulties that led to its demise in 1988.

The McDonnell Douglas DC-9 is an American single-aisle airliner designed by the Douglas Aircraft Company. After introducing its heavy DC-8 in 1959, Douglas approved the smaller, all-new DC-9 for shorter flights on April 8, 1963. The DC-9-10 first flew on February 25, 1965 and gained its type certificate on November 23, to enter service with Delta Air Lines on December 8. With five seats across in economy, it had two rear-mounted Pratt & Whitney JT8D low-bypass turbofans under a T-tail for a cleaner wing, a two-person flight deck and built-in airstairs.
