Serangoon North Village and Estate is a cluster of HDB apartment flats located north of Serangoon Central separated by Serangoon Gardens to the west and private housing estates to the east with Yio Chu Kang Road connecting the two areas. It is a subzone of the neighbouring area Hougang. It is sandwiched between Ang Mo Kio to the west, Serangoon Gardens to the southwest, and Hougang to the east.
Serangoon North has neighbourhood precincts of N1 and N5. Neighbourhood Zone 5 was the latest addition to Serangoon North, which is the current Serangoon North Estate that runs through Serangoon North Avenues 3, 4, 5, and 6. It was built in the period of years 1992 to 1994. The rest (Serangoon North Village), were built before the 1990s.
Currently, there are 2 areas of Serangoon North, one constituted by the Workers' Party (WP) under the Aljunied GRC, which is Serangoon North Village (Serangoon North Avenues 1 and 2). Serangoon North Estate, on the other hand, is under the constitution management of the People's Action Party (PAP) in Jalan Kayu ward, under Ang Mo Kio GRC.
Serangoon North Village is also well known for its status as an animal paradise, having been named "The Petwalk". There are numerous establishments dealing in the sale of pets like birds, fishes and other animals. There are also veterinary clinics in the vicinity.
Serangoon North will witness Serangoon North MRT station as well, which is stipulated to commence operations as early as 2029.
Facilities
Serangoon North Estate is the area where factories opened and operated. Notable buildings around the area are Keppel NTT and Popular Holdings, which moved from its former site at Toh Tuck. Datacenters such as that of Iron Mountain have also been constructed in recent years. The ground level of First Centre offers car owners many options to have their vehicles serviced or enhanced. Ang Mo Kio Industrial Park II forms part of the industrial area as well. There is also a coffee shop, KPT located not far from the junction between Serangoon North Avenues 4 and 5 which operates 24 hours a day.
Traffic Issues
After Rosyth School moved to its present premise along Serangoon North Avenue 4, the one-lane road witnessed severe traffic issues. This was a result of parents stopping their vehicles by the roadside to wait for their children to be dismissed from school. This traffic issue persisted until late-2011 when the school's field was moved to a higher level and a pick up/drop off area modelled after Resorts World Sentosa's basement carpark was built.
Today, Serangoon North Avenue 4 sees a smoother traffic flow.
Ang Mo Kio is a planning area and residential town situated in the North-East of Singapore. Located approximately 11 kilometres (6.8 mi) north of the Downtown Core district, Ang Mo Kio is the 3rd most populated planning area in the North-East Region and ranks 8th in terms of population in the country overall. Apart from its boundary with the Central Water Catchment in the west, Bishan borders three other planning areas - Ang Mo Kio to the north, Toa Payoh to the south and Serangoon to the east.
Hougang is a planning area and mature residential town located in the North-East Region of Singapore. The town is the most populous in the region, being home to 247,528 residents as of 2018. Hougang planning area is bordered by Sengkang to the north, Geylang and Serangoon to the south, Bedok to the southeast, Toa Payoh to the southwest, Paya Lebar to the east, Ang Mo Kio to the west and Bishan to the southwest.
The Ang Mo Kio Police Division is one of the seven land divisions of the Singapore Police Force. It was first established in 1965. It was previously located in Paya Lebar. In 1987, the division HQ migrated to its present location to better serve the public and meet its operational needs. Ang Mo Kio Division serves a residential population of over 1.1 million residents. Ang Mo Kio Division’s area of coverage includes mature housing estates such as Ang Mo Kio, Hougang and Serangoon. It also oversees young but rapidly-developing residential estates like Sengkang and Punggol.
Yio Chu Kang MRT station is an above-ground Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) station on the North South line in Ang Mo Kio, Singapore, near the junction of Ang Mo Kio Avenue 6 and Ang Mo Kio Avenue 8.
The Al-Istiqamah Mosque is a mosque in Serangoon, Singapore which was completed in 1999. It is the only mosque in Singapore to have land allocated for it before the appointment of its Mosque Building Committee by the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore, MUIS.
Fernvale is a neighbourhood of Sengkang New Town in Singapore. It is located between Sungei Punggol and the proposed Sengkang West Industrial Estate. The house numbers of the public apartment blocks in Fernvale begin with the number '4' (4xx). Fernvale is the newest neighbourhood in Sengkang Town to be completed by the Housing and Development Board (HDB). Seletar Mall, a new shopping amenity which houses Sengkang's first cineplex, is located within this neighbourhood. In 2017, A proposed community facility to be located next to Seletar Mall was announced, which houses a community club, childcare centre, hawker centre and wet market. The community facility which was slated to be ready by the second half of 2020, had stopped construction in April 2020 due to the COVID-19 measures set by the government. Construction of the facility has since continued in the second half of 2020 and is slated to be completed by Q4 2021.
Sengkang is a planning area and residential town located in the North-East Region of Singapore. Approximately 14 kilometres (8.7 mi) north-east of the Downtown Core district, the town is the most populous planning area in the region, being home to 249,370 residents as of the 2020 census. Sengkang shares boundaries with Seletar and Punggol in the north, Pasir Ris and Paya Lebar in the east, Hougang and Serangoon to the south, as well as Yishun and Ang Mo Kio to the west.
Ang Mo Kio Group Representation Constituency is a five-member Group Representation Constituency (GRC) in the north eastern region of Singapore. The constituency encompasses the majority of Ang Mo Kio, Seletar Hills, the northern half of Serangoon North, a portion of northern Hougang and a portion of Fernvale. The western portion consists of parts of the Central Catchment Nature Reserve, while in the northeastern corner, it borders the Straits of Johor with two reclaimed islands, Pulau Punggol Barat and Pulau Punggol Timor. The northeast also includes the Sengkang Floating Wetland. This GRC has a total of 5 wards namely Teck Ghee, Cheng San- Seletar, Fernvale, Jalan Kayu and Ang Mo Kio-Hougang. It is led by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.
Buangkok is a neighbourhood located in north eastern Singapore. Whilst its boundaries are vague, the neighbourhood is roughly spread across the Trafalgar and Compassvale subzones of the Hougang and Sengkang Planning Areas respectively, as designated by the URA.
Cheng San Group Representation Constituency is a now defunct Group Representation Constituency in the North-eastern region in Singapore. The GRC consisted of the eastern part of Ang Mo Kio, Jalan Kayu, Seletar Hills, part of Serangoon North, a large part of Hougang, Buangkok, and the whole of Sengkang New Town and Punggol New Town.
