Shaamboo is a town and separate woreda in western Ethiopia. Located in the Horo Guduru Welega Zone of Oromia Region west of Lake Fincha'a, this town has an elevation of 2,503 metres above sea level. It was previously the administrative centre of Horro woreda.
A Swedish reporter published in 1969, an account of conditions in Shaamboo Prison, which consists of a fenced-in area the size of a football field, and associated buildings. A deep trench 3×5 metres in size is the common latrine for about 130 men and women. Most of the prisoners are chained, and are fed once a day. The eight female prisoners were locked in a single room 8×3 metres and never allowed outside. The men are only confined at night into two rooms 8×12 metres, 60 men in each, and sleep directly upon the wooden floor. [1]
The 2007 national census reported a total population for this town of 74,995, of whom 37,757 were men and 37,238 were women. The majority of the inhabitants observed Ethiopian Orthodox Christianity, with 50.32% reporting that as their religion, while 38.24% were Protestants, and 9% were Moslem. [2] The 1994 census reported this town had a total population of 11,327 of whom 5,463 were males and 5,864 were females.
In the 1930s a schooling system was introduced to Shambu and the surrounding residents, an area where 99.9% of the population lives in a rural-agriculture area and most youths walked to Naqamte for schooling.

1. Chato Forest
The largest forest in Horo Gudru Welega Zone is called Chato ('Bosona Caatoo' in Afaan Oromoo). The forest lies approximately between 9 40'- 90 42' N latitudes and 36 59'-37 00'E longitudes (EMA, 1988) in the Horo District 30 km north-west of Shambu which is located at about 314 km west of Finfinne.
This forest is located along altitudinal ranges between 1700 m and 2350 m a.s.l and covers an area of about 42,000 hectares, of these 18, 000 ha is the natural forest (Oromia Agricultural Bureau personal Communication).
2. Qonge Forest
The largest forest in Horo Gudru Welega Zone is called Qonge ('Bosona Qongee' in Afaan Oromoo). The forest lies approximately 9°37'23.0"N latitudes and 37°06'27.2"E longitudes between Horro Bulluq and Horro District 13 km north-west of Shambu which is located at about 314 km west of Finfinne.
Nekemte, also spelled as Neqemte, is a market city and separate woreda in western Ethiopia. Located in the East Welega Zone of the Oromia Region, Nekemte has a latitude and longitude of 9°5′N36°33′E and an elevation of 2,088 meters.
Cheliya is one of the Aanaas in the Oromia of Ethiopia. Part of the West Shewa Zone, Cheliya is bordered on the south by Nono and Dano, on the southwest by the Gibe River which separates it from the Jimma Zone, on the west by Bako Tibe, on the northwest by the Guder River which separates it from the Horo Gudru Welega Zone, on the north by Ginde Beret, on the northeast by Jeldu, on the east by Ambo, and on the southeast by Tikur. The administrative center of this Aanaa is Gedo; other towns in Cheliya include Babiche, Ejaji, and Hamus Gebeya. Midakegn woreda was separated form Cheliya.
Bako Tibe is one of the Aanaas, or districts, in the Oromia region of Ethiopia. Part of the West Shewa Zone, Bako Tibe is bordered on the south and west by the East Welega Zone, on the north by Horo Gudru Welega Zone, and on the east by Cheliya. The administrative center of this woreda is Bako; other towns in Bako Tibe include Tibe and Shoboka.
Gimbi is a woreda in Oromia Region, Ethiopia. Part of the West Welega Zone, Gimbi woreda is bordered on the south by Haru, on the southwest by Yubdo, on the west by Lalo Asabi, on the north by the Benishangul-Gumuz Region, on the east by the East Welega Zone, and on the southeast by an exclave of the Benishangul-Gumuz Region. The administrative center for this woreda is Gimbi. Homa woreda was part of Gimbi woreda.
Gida Ayana and Kiremu is a woreda in the Oromia Region of Ethiopia. Part of the East Welega Zone, Gida Ayana and Kiremu is bordered on the south by Guto Gida, on the west by Limmu, on the northwest by Ibantu, on the east by Horo Gudru Welega Zone, and on the north by the Blue Nile river. The administrative center of the woreda is Gida Ayana; other towns include Gutin and Kiremu.
Abe Dongoro is one of the woredas in the Oromia Region of Ethiopia. Part of the Horo Gudru Welega Zone, Abe Dongoro is bordered on the south and west by East Welega Zone, on the west by Gida Kiremu, on the north by Jardega Jarte, and on the east by Jimma Horo. The administrative center of this woreda is Tulu Wayu.
Abay Chomen is one of the woredas in the Oromia Region of Ethiopia. Part of the Horo Gudru Welega Zone, Abay Chomen is bordered on the south by Lake Finicha'a, on the southwest by Jimma Horo, on the northwest by Amuru Jarte, on the north by the Abay River which separates it from the Amhara Region, and on the east and south by Guduru. The woreda capital is Finicha'a; other towns in Abay Chomen include Finicha'a Camp.
Guduru is a woreda in Oromia Region, Ethiopia. This woreda is named after one of the sections of the Macha Oromo, also known as the Torban Guduru, which coalesced into a kingdom around 1855 under Gama Moras, which lay between the Abay River and the Gibe region. It was also the location of the Battle of Embabo, fought 6 June 1882; the Shewan forces of Menelik defeated the Gojjame army, capturing Negus Tekle Haymanot and establishing a Shewan hegemony over the territories south of the Abay.

The administrative center is Alibo. The other town in this district is jardega . The large field which is called Jarmet is found in this district. and the other historical place is Oda Wixar which is found in Darge Koticha Kebele.The district is known for its cattle, crop productivity and production of honey. Also in some Kebeles such as Derge koticha, Harbu Negaso, Kiltu Cheka, Digalu,Wato and others production of coffee, fruits and vegetables is common.
