West Arsi (Oromo: Arsii Lixaa/Dhihaa) is a zone in the Oromia Region of Ethiopia. This zone is named after a subgroup of the Oromo, who inhabit it. It covers an area of 11,776.72 km2, divided into 12 districts (weredas). The population was officially estimated at 2,929,894 in mid 2022. [1] The administrative center of this zone is Shashamane, with an estimated 208,368 inhabitants in mid 2022; [2] other towns in this zone (with estimated populations in mid 2022) include Arsi Negele (98,114) in Arsi Negele District, Dodola (43,186) in Dodola District, Asassa (42,867) in Gedeb Asasa District, Kofele (27,948) in Kofele District, and Adaba (25,098) in Adaba District. Demographics

Based on the 2007 Census conducted by the Central Statistical Agency of Ethiopia (CSA), this Zone has a total population of 1,964,038, of whom 973,743 are men and 990,295 women. 272,084 or 13.85% of population are urban inhabitants. A total of 387,143 households were counted in this Zone, which results in an average of 5.01 persons to a household, and 369,533 housing units. The two largest ethnic groups reported in West Arsi were the Oromo (88.52%) and the Amhara (3.98%); all other ethnic groups made up 7.5% of the population. Oromo was spoken as a first language by 87.34% and 6.46% spoke Amharic; the remaining 6.2% spoke all other primary languages reported. The majority of the inhabitants were Muslim, with 80.34% of the population having reported they practiced that belief, while 11.04% of the population professed Ethiopian Orthodox Christianity and 7.02% of the population professed Protestantism. West Hararge is a zone in the Oromia Region of Ethiopia. West Hararghe takes its name from the former province of Hararghe. West Harerge is bordered on the south by the Shebelle River which separates it from Bale, on the southwest by Arsi, on the northwest by the Afar Region, on the north by the Somali Region and on the east by East Hararghe. Towns in West Hararghe include Chiro, Badessa, Gelemso, and Mieso, Asebot.

Kofele is one of the Districts in the Oromia Region of Ethiopia. It is named after the administrative center of the District, Kofele. Part of the West Arsi Zone, Kofele is bordered on the south by the Kokosa, on the west by the Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples' Region, on the northwest by the Shashamene(District), on the north by Kore, on the east by Gedeb Asasa, and on the south east by Dodola. Other towns in Kofele include Wabe Gefersa.

Bekoji was a woreda in Oromia Region, Ethiopia. Part of the Arsi Zone, Bekoji was bordered on the south by Gedeb, on the southwest by Kofele, on the west by Munesa, on the north by Digeluna Tijo, on the east by Sherka, and on the southeast by the Shebelle River which separated it from the Bale Zone. The administrative center of this woreda was Bekoji; other towns included Lemu Sirba, Meraro, Siltana and Sirbo. Bekoji was divided for Enkelo Wabe and Limuna Bilbilo woredas.

Part of the West Shewa Zone, Nono is bordered on the southwest by the Gibe River which separates it from the Jimma Zone, on the northwest by Dano, on the north by Cheliya, on the northeast by Tikur, on the east by the Southwest Shewa Zone, and on the southeast by the Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples Region. Jibat woreda was part of Nono woreda.

Seden Sodo is one of the wereda south west shoa zone found at Oromia Regional state, Ethiopia country. it is bordered on the Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples Region, Gedebeno Gutezer Wereda or Gurage zone on the west by weliso, by north by Bacho wereda on the northeast by Tole wereda, and on the east by Kersa Malima. The major town in Seden Sodo is Harbu Chulule.

Part of the West Arsi Zone located in the Great Rift Valley, Arsi Negele is bordered on the south by Naannawa Shashamane and Kofale, on the southwest by Lake Shala which separates it from Shala, on the west by the Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples Region, on the north by East Shewa with which it shares the shores of Lakes Abijatta and Langano, and on the east by the Heban Arsi, Qore woreda and small portion by Arsi Zone.

Naannawa Shashamane is a woreda in Oromia Region, Ethiopia. It is named after the town of Shashamene what was separated from this woreda. Part of the West Arsi Zone located in the Great Rift Valley, Shashamene is bordered on the south by the Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples Region, on the west by Shala, on the north by Arsi Negele, on the east by the Kore, and on the southeast by Kofele. The largest town in Shashamene is Kuyera.

Gedeb Hassasa is one of the Aanaas in the Oromia of Ethiopia. Part of the West Arsi Zone, Gedeb Hassasa is bordered on the south by the Dodola, on the west by Kofele, on the north west by Kore, and on the north and east by Bekoji. The administrative center of the woreda is Hassasa.

Kokosa is one of the Aanaas in the Oromia of Ethiopia. Being part of the West Arsi Zone, Kokosa is bordered on the south and west by the Sidama Region, on the north by the Kofele, on the northeast by Dodola, and on the southeast by Nensebo. The administrative center of this woreda is Kokosa; other towns include Diki, Gata, BokoreHebano, Hogiso.

Dodola is one of the Aanaas in the Oromia of Ethiopia. It is named after the administrative center of the woreda, Dodola. It was the capital city of Ganale Awraja. Ganale's modern administration leadership was begun by Fit Awrary Woldemeckael Buie Falama(fiit awraarii Woldamikaa'el Bu'ii Falamaa). He was a single charismatic leader who attracted both his nation and the last Ethiopian king, Haile Selassie. Because of his impact and legacy, thousands of Ganale Awraja residents still remember him as their transforming leader who thought ahead of his time. Because he transformed his nation, a nation which never had school, road, telephone, or airport, to test the modern services, by starting modern education in 1940s and the second school 1950s, airport, road, and telephone. His nephew, Mekonnen Hassen Buie, who is best known as a great mediator and inclusiveness, kept his uncle's legacy and helped to build the first high school in the Awraja Ganale in 1961 and get adequate drinking water for his city. Today, Dodola is part of the West Arsi Zone with the capital city of west arsi zone is shashamene(Shaashamannee), Dodola is bordered on the south by Nensebo, on the west by Kokosa, on the north by the Shebelle River which separates it from the Kofele and Gedeb Asasa, and on the east by Adaba. Other towns include Herero.

Adaba is one of the Aanaas in the Oromia of Ethiopia; it shares the name of its administrative center, Adaba. Part of the West Arsi Zone, Adaba is bordered on the southwest by Nensebo, on the west by Dodola, on the northwest by the Shabelle River which separates it from the Gedeb Asasa, and on the east and south by Bale Zone.

Nensebo is one of the Aanaas in the Oromia of Ethiopia. Part of the West Arsi Zone, Nensebo is bordered on the south by the Borena Zone, on the west by the Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples Region, on the northwest by Kokosa, on the north by Dodola, on the northeast by Adaba, on the east by Bale Zone. Towns in Nensebo include Werka.

Negele Arsi or Arsi Negele, is a city in southeastern Ethiopia. Located in the West Arsi Zone of the Oromia Region on the paved highway north of Shashamane, this town has a longitude and latitude of 7°21′N38°42′E and an elevation of 2,043 meters above sea level. It is the administrative center of Arsi Negele District
