The South American Football Confederation is the continental governing body of football in South America and it is one of FIFA's six continental confederations. The oldest continental confederation in the world, its headquarters are located in Luque, Paraguay. CONMEBOL is responsible for the organization and governance of South American football's major international tournaments. With 10 member football associations, it has the fewest members of all the confederations in FIFA.
The South American Youth Football Championship, also known as U-20 South American Championship and Spanish: Torneo Juventudes de América, "Campeonato Sudamericano Sub 20" or Portuguese: Juventude da América is a South American football tournament organized by the CONMEBOL for South American national teams of men under age of 20. This tournament also serves as qualification for the FIFA U-20 World Cup.
The CONMEBOL Copa América de Futsal is the main national futsal competition of the CONMEBOL nations organized by the FIFA. It was first held in 1964 and was organized by Asociación Mundial de Futsal (AMF) as "Sudamericano". The tournament was also a qualifier for the AMF Futsal World Cup. The AMF organised the championship until 1989.
The South American Under-17 Women's Football Championship, officially the CONMEBOL Sub17 Femenina, is an international women's association football competition held every two years for South American under-17 women teams and serves as a qualification tournament for the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup.
The 2015 South American Youth Football Championship was the 27th edition of the biennial international youth football tournament organized by CONMEBOL for the men's under-20 national teams of South America. It was held in Uruguay from 14 January to 7 February 2015.
The association football tournament at the 2016 Summer Olympics was held from 3 to 20 August in Brazil.
The 2018 Copa América Femenina was the eighth edition of the CONMEBOL Copa América Femenina, the quadrennial international football competition for women's national teams in South America affiliated with CONMEBOL. The tournament was played between 4 and 22 April 2018 in Chile.
The 2019 South American U-20 Championship was the 29th edition of the South American U-20 Championship, the biennial international youth football championship organised by CONMEBOL for the men's under-20 national teams of South America. It was held in Chile between 17 January and 10 February 2019.
Twelve teams competed in the 2020 women's Olympic football tournament.
The 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup is scheduled to be the tenth edition of the FIFA Women's World Cup, the quadrennial international women's football championship contested by the national teams of the member associations of FIFA. The tournament will include 32 teams for the second time after FIFA announced the expansion of the tournament in July 2019. Spain are the defending champions, having won their first title in 2023.
The 2020 South American U-17 Women's Championship was originally going be the seventh edition of the South American Under-17 Women's Football Championship, the biennial international youth football championship organised by CONMEBOL for the women's under-17 national teams of South America. It was scheduled to be held in Uruguay between 15 April and 3 May 2020, before its suspension and subsequent cancellation due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The 2020 South American Under-20 Women's Football Championship was the 9th edition of the South American Under-20 Women's Football Championship, the biennial international youth football championship organised by CONMEBOL for the women's under-20 national teams of South America. It was partially held in Argentina between 4–14 March 2020 until it was suspended and later cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The 2022 Copa América Femenina was the 9th edition of the main international women's football championship in South America, the Copa América Femenina, for national teams affiliated with CONMEBOL. The competition was held in Colombia from 8 to 30 July 2022.
The 2021 South American U-17 Championship was originally going be the 19th edition of the South American U-17 Championship, the biennial international youth football championship organised by CONMEBOL for the men's under-17 national teams of South America. It was scheduled to be held in Ecuador between 31 March – 25 April 2021, before its suspension and subsequent cancellation due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The 2021 South American U-20 Championship was originally going be the 30th edition of the South American U-20 Championship, the biennial international youth football championship organised by CONMEBOL for the men's under-20 national teams of South America. It was scheduled to be held in Colombia between 2 and 27 February 2021, before its suspension and subsequent cancellation due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
A total of 16 teams compete in the men's football tournament at the 2024 Summer Olympics. In addition to the host nation France, 15 men's national under-23 teams qualified from the tournaments of the six continental confederations.
The 2023 South American U-17 Championship was the 19th edition of the South American U-17 Championship, the biennial international youth football championship organized by CONMEBOL for the men's under-17 national teams of South America. It was held in Ecuador between 30 March and 23 April 2023. This was the first U-17 championship in four years due to the COVID-19 pandemic forcing CONMEBOL to cancel the tournament in 2021.
The 2022 South American Under-20 Women's Football Championship was the 10th edition of the South American Under-20 Women's Football Championship, the biennial international youth football championship organised by CONMEBOL for the women's under-20 national teams of South America. It was held in La Calera, Chile from 6 to 24 April 2022.
The 2022 South American U-17 Women's Championship was the 7th edition of the South American U-17 Women's Championship, the biennial international youth football championship organised by CONMEBOL for the women's under-17 national teams of South America. It was held in Montevideo, Uruguay from 1 to 19 March 2022.
The 2023 South American U-20 Championship was the 30th edition of the South American U-20 Championship, the biennial international youth football championship organised by CONMEBOL for the men's under-20 national teams of South America. It was held in Colombia between 19 January and 12 February 2023.
