The team is governed by the Paraguayan Football Association and is limited to players under the age of 23, except three overage players, ostensibly possessing veteran experience and expertise, in accordance with FIFA regulations.

The Paraguay national football team, nicknamed La Albirroja, represents Paraguay in men's international football competitions, and are controlled by the Paraguayan Football Association. Paraguay is a member of CONMEBOL. The Albirroja has qualified for eight FIFA World Cup competitions, with their best performance coming in 2010 when they reached the quarter-finals. A regular participant at the Copa América, Paraguay have been crowned champions of the competition on two occasions. Paraguay's highest FIFA World Rankings was 8th and their lowest was 103. Paraguay was awarded second place with Best Move of the Year in 1996 for their rise in the FIFA Rankings.
The Bolivia national football team, nicknamed La Verde, has represented Bolivia in international football since 1926. Organized by the Bolivian Football Federation (FBF), it is one of the ten members of FIFA's South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL).
The Ecuador national football team, nicknamed La Tricolor, represents Ecuador in men's international football and is controlled by the Ecuadorian Football Federation (FEF). They joined FIFA in 1926 and CONMEBOL a year later.
The Venezuela national football team, nicknamed La Vinotinto, represents Venezuela in men's international football and is controlled by the Venezuelan Football Federation (FVF), the governing body for football in Venezuela. Their nickname is a reference to the unique “red wine” team color that is used on their home jerseys. When playing at home in official games, they usually rotate between three stadiums: The Polideportivo Cachamay in Puerto Ordaz, the Estadio José Antonio Anzoátegui in Puerto La Cruz and the Estadio Pueblo Nuevo in San Cristóbal. In friendly matches, they tend to rotate between the rest of the stadiums in the country.
The Argentina women's national football team represents Argentina in international women's football. Like their men's counterpart, the women's team has been known or nicknamed "La Albiceleste".
The Paraguay women's national football team represents Paraguay in international women's football and is controlled by the Paraguayan Football Association. La Albirroja has never reached the World Cup finals, but has finished fourth in both the 2006 Sudamericano Femenino and the 2022 Copa América Femenina, the only times they were not eliminated in the Group stage. The selection is limited to players under the age of 23, except three overage players. The team is controlled by the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF). Brazil U23 is one of the most successful teams in the Olympic football tournament, having won it twice and securing a record total of seven medals, including two golds, three silvers, and two bronzes.
The 2004 CONMEBOL Pre-Olympic Tournament began on 7 January 2004, and is the 12th CONMEBOL Pre-Olympic Tournament. This was the 4th tournament is open to players under the age of 23 without any other restriction. There is no qualification stage and all 10 member of CONMEBOL automatic qualified. The winner and the runner-up qualified for 2004 Summer Olympics. Players born on or after 1 January 1981 were eligible to play in this competition.

The ten national teams involved in the tournament were required to register a squad of 20 players, of which two had to be goalkeepers. Only players in these squads are eligible to take part in the tournament. The tournament exclusively required players to be born on or after 1 January 1981 to be eligible.
The 2015 South American Youth Football Championship was the 27th edition of the biennial international youth football tournament organized by CONMEBOL for the men's under-20 national teams of South America. It was held in Uruguay from 14 January to 7 February 2015.
The 2013 South American U-15 Championship was the 6th edition of the South American U-15 Championship, the biennial international youth football championship organised by CONMEBOL for the men's under-15 national teams of South America. It was held in Bolivia from 16 to 30 November 2023.
The Chile Olympic football team represents Chile in international football competitions at the Olympic Games and Pan American Games. Since the 1992 tournament, the team is limited to players under the age of 23, except three overage players. The team is controlled by the Federación de Fútbol de Chile (FFCh). Combined with pre-1992 tournaments, Chile has qualified on four occasions to the Summer Olympics, winning a bronze medal in 2000.

The 2024 CONMEBOL Pre-Olympic Tournament was the 14th edition of the CONMEBOL Pre-Olympic Tournament, the quadrennial, international, age-restricted football tournament organised by the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) to determine which men's under-23 national teams from the South American region qualify for the Olympic football tournament. It was held in Venezuela from 20 January to 11 February 2024.
The 2024 CONMEBOL Pre-Olympic Tournament will be an international football tournament to be held in Venezuela from 20 January to 11 February 2024. The ten national teams involved in the tournament were required to register a squad of a minimum of 19 and a maximum of 23 players, including at least three goalkeepers. Only players in these squads are eligible to take part in the tournament. The tournament exclusively requires players to be born on or after 1 January 2001 to be eligible, that is, they must be a maximum of 23 years old by the end of the calendar year in which the competition is played.
