The Summer Camp Music Festival is a multi-day music festival created by Jay Goldberg Events & Entertainment and held annually on Memorial Day Weekend at Three Sisters Park in Chillicothe, Illinois. The event typically attracts around 20,000 visitors, of which between 8,000 and 10,000 arrive before gates open. [1] In 2014, it was listed as one of the top 40 music festivals in Rolling Stone [2] [3] and in 2015 on Rolling Stone's 50 Must-See Music Festivals. [4]
Soulpatch is a long-term, interactive garden space at Three Sisters Park. Experts have been providing education and answer questions about gardening at Summer Camp since 2014. [5]
The first annual Summer Camp Music Festival was held June 23–24, 2001. [6] The intiial event saw over 1,000 attendees. [7] Twenty bands on 2 stages played for 2 days. [8]
The second annual Summer Camp Music Festival was held July 5–7, 2002. [6]
The third annual Summer Camp Music Festival was held May 24–26, 2003. [6] This year marked the first time Umphrey's McGee began playing at Summer Camp.
The fourth annual Summer Camp Music Festival was held May 28–30, 2004. [6] This year, the festival expanded to 35 bands.
The fifth annual Summer Camp Music Festival was held May 26–29, 2005. [6] This year featured over 40 bands. The 2005 event also featured a “Playground Kids Camp” area with arts, crafts and games, including water balloons, hair wraps, face painting, and other activities. [9]
The sixth annual Summer Camp Music Festival was held May 25–27, 2006. [6]
The seventh annual Summer Camp Music Festival was held May 24–27, 2007. [6]
The 2008 Summer Camp Music Festival was held May 23–25. [6]

The 2020 event was slated for May 22-24, 2020. [13] It was rescheduled to August 21-23, 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. [14] Officials decided to cancel the 2020 festival due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The 20th festival was deferred to August 2021.
The 20th annual Summer Camp Music Festival was held on August 20-22, 2021. [6] This event had over 25,000 attendees, its highest attendance. [7] [15] The Illumination Woods, a new experiential art area with psychedelic art installations, was a new attraction at the 2021 event. [15] [5] It also hosted the 10th annual Field Day, an annual color war where teams competed in tug-of-war, giant Twister, dodgeball, eating contests, and other competitions. [15] [16] The indoor events at the Red Barn were cancelled due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. [17]
The 21th annual Summer Camp Music Festival was held on May 27–29, 2022. [6]
The 22nd annual Summer Camp Music Festival was held on May 25–28, 2023. [12] Goldberg announced the 2023 festival would be the last, as the event in its past incarnation would go on hiatus. [18] [19] [20] Goldberg cited competition from other festivals, supply chain issues, sourcing labor, expenses, and logistics. [18] Chillicothe’s mayor, Michael Hughes, said the festival brings in approximately $50,000 on average. [18] The event is planning a "redefined" version for 2024, which may be smaller with fewer stage acts. [18] [20] [21] Goldberg told the Pantagraph that the new event would continue to offer diverse music styles. [21] Goldberg told WCBU that the new event would offer a "clean slate" without expectations from the last two decades. [22]
The 2023 event hosted over 150 artists playing 247 sets, with over 260 hours of music. [7] Over 20,000 attendees participated. [23]
In December 2023, it was announced that Summer Camp Music Festival would be rebranded as Solshine: A Music & Arts Reverie. The scheduled dates for Solshine are May 24 – May 26, 2024. [24]
The String Cheese Incident (SCI) is an American jam band from Crested Butte and Telluride, Colorado, formed in 1993. The band is composed of Michael Kang, Michael Travis, Bill Nershi, Kyle Hollingsworth, and Keith Moseley, and, since 2004, Jason Hann.
Formed in 1998, SCI Fidelity Records is an independent record label based in Boulder, Colorado. It is owned and managed by the jam band The String Cheese Incident.
Vegoose was an annual Halloween music and arts festival that took place in 2005, 2006, and 2007 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Unlike the Bonnaroo Music Festival — put on by the same organizers, Superfly Productions and AC Entertainment — Vegoose does not offer on-site camping. In addition to music, the festival features a score of activities, including celebrity impersonators, a wedding chapel, costume contests, a massive pumpkin display, and more.
FloydFest is a Music and arts festival held annually near Floyd, Virginia, in the Blue Ridge Mountains
The Jammy Award is an awards show for bands - referred to as jam bands - and other artists associated with live, improvisational music, created by Dean Budnick and Peter Shapiro. The Jammys are sponsored by Relix magazine, Jambands.com, and Shapiro. The Jammy Awards returned in 2008 to the WAMU Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York City after taking a one-year break.
The All Good Music Festival and Camp Out was a weekend-long event held annually in July. Since its inception in 1997, it had been held at venues along the Mid-Atlantic, including Trip's Farm Masontown, West Virginia, Brandywine, Maryland and most notably Marvin's Mountaintop. It moved to Legend Valley in Thornville, Ohio in 2012. All Good announced they would be taking a short hiatus in 2014 and not be having a festival. They returned in 2015 in Summit Point, West Virginia. Headlining acts were Primus, moe. and Cake. In 2016, it was announced the festival had been retired and would be replaced by a two-day event at Merriweather Post Pavilion.
Gathering of the Vibes was an annual four-day music, camping and arts festival that celebrated the Grateful Dead and showcased a diverse variety of music. Over the course of the event, styles would often include funk, bluegrass, rock, jam band, jazz, reggae, R&B and folk music. Beginning in 1996, GOTV brought many bands to the New England area during the summer season. There existed two main stages which would alternate bands so that festival-goers could experience music all day and into the night. A short stroll down the beach was the "Green Vibes Stage", which showcased some of the Northeast's finest talent.
Wakarusa Music and Camping Festival was a four-day music festival held annually in early June from 2004 to 2015 at Mulberry Mountain near Ozark, Arkansas. Named for the Wakarusa River, the festival was first held at Clinton State Park immediately outside of Lawrence, Kansas. It moved to its new location, just outside Fort Smith and Fayetteville, Arkansas in 2009. The festival is known for an eclectic mix of music and has featured artists like Grammy award winners the Black Keys, The Flaming Lips, Wilco, and Bela Fleck and the Flecktones. Activities other than music included disc golf, yoga, hiking, and swimming in the Mulberry River.
Electric Forest is a multi-genre music festival produced by Madison House Presents and Insomniac Events with a focus on electronic music and jam band genres.
The 2005 Bonnaroo Music Festival took place from June 10–12, and more than 75,000 people were in attendance. New Line Cinema introduced a twenty-four-hour "cinema tent," showing popular and cult films. Wireless Internet access was provided by Cisco Systems. There was a "comedy tent" featuring Jim Breuer as well as some lesser-known comedians and even daily yoga classes. Like 2004, rain marked each day of the festival. The children's area was provided by Kidz Jam.
The 2006 10,000 Lakes Festival was held July 19 through July 22. In 2006, over 18,000 people attended.
Wanee Festival was an annual event held 2005 - 2018 at the Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park, in Live Oak, Florida. The festival was hosted by the Allman Brothers Band until 2014 and was managed by Live Nation. On November 5, 2018, it was announced via the Wanee website that the festival would not be occurring at the Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park in 2019, citing the religious holidays of Easter and Passover as the reason the festival was cancelled. No plans for future Wanee Festivals have been announced.
Nateva Music & Camping Festival was a four-day, multi stage, limited capacity outdoor camping festival held July 1–4, 2010 at the 100+ acre Oxford Fairgrounds in Oxford, Maine. The festival featured headliners moe., The Flaming Lips, and Furthur. Lotus headlined "early bird" activities on Thursday, July 1.
A jam band is a musical group whose concerts and live albums substantially feature improvisational "jamming." Typically, jam bands will play variations of pre-existing songs, extending them to improvise over chord patterns or rhythmic grooves. Jam bands are known for having a very fluid structure, playing long sets of music which often cross genre boundaries, varying their nightly setlists, and segueing from one song into another without a break.
The North Coast Music Festival is held annually in Chicago on Labor Day weekend. Initially featuring a diverse mix of electronic, hip hop, folk, jam band, and rock acts, and a wide variety of performance and installation artists, North Coast evolved to host primarily features EDM acts. Up through 2018, the festival was held at Union Park. In 2019, it was held at Huntington Bank Pavilion in Northerly Island. In 2020, the festival did not take place due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The festival has been held at SeatGeek Stadium in Bridgeview, Illinois since 2021.
Lockn' Festival, first known as Interlocken Music Festival, was an annual four-day music festival held at Oak Ridge Farm near Arrington in Nelson County, Virginia. The festival focused primarily on jam bands and other music improvisation acts. Its inaugural event took place September 5–8, 2013, drew nearly 25,000 fans and featured notable groups such as Furthur, Trey Anastasio Band, Gov't Mule, Widespread Panic featuring John Fogerty, The String Cheese Incident featuring Zac Brown, and The Black Crowes.
The Peach Music Festival is a music festival started by the Allman Brothers Band and Live Nation Entertainment that has been held annually since 2012 at the Pavilion at Montage Mountain and Montage Mountain Ski Resort in Scranton, Pennsylvania. One exception was in 2020.
Suwannee Hulaween is an annual music and camping festival held over Halloween weekend at the Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park in Live Oak, Florida.
