The sixteenth season of the American reality television show The Voice premiered on February 25, 2019, on NBC. Adam Levine, Blake Shelton and Kelly Clarkson returned as coaches. John Legend joined as a coach, replacing Jennifer Hudson. [1] [2] The series again featured a fifth coach, this time, Bebe Rexha, who selected contestants to participate in The Comeback Stage.
The Voice is an American singing competition television series broadcast on NBC. It premiered during the spring television cycle on April 26, 2011, and expanded into the fall cycle with the premiere of the third season on September 10, 2012. Based on the original The Voice of Holland, it has aired fifteen seasons and aims to find currently unsigned singing talent contested by aspiring singers, age 13 or over, drawn from public auditions.
Adam Noah Levine is a American singer-songwriter and actor. He is the lead singer for the pop rock band Maroon 5. Born and raised in Los Angeles, California, Levine began his musical career in 1994, when he co-founded the band Kara's Flowers, of which he was the lead vocalist and guitarist. The band split up after their only album, The Fourth World, which did not gain popularity. In 2001, the group was reformed – with guitarist James Valentine joining the line-up – and began a new musical chapter, changing their name to Maroon 5. In 2002, the band released their first album, Songs About Jane, which went multi-platinum in the United States. Since then, they have released five more albums: It Won't Be Soon Before Long (2007), Hands All Over (2010), Overexposed (2012), V (2014), and Red Pill Blues (2017). As part of Maroon 5, Levine has received three Grammy Awards, three American Music Awards, an MTV Video Music Award and a World Music Award.
Blake Tollison Shelton is an American country singer and television personality. In 2001, he made his debut with the single "Austin". The lead-off single from his self-titled debut album, "Austin" spent five weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. The now Platinum-certified debut album also produced two more top 20 entries. Although the album was released on Giant Records Nashville, he was transferred to Warner Bros. Records Nashville after Giant closed in late 2001.
Maelyn Jarmon won the competition, and John Legend became the second new coach to win his first time on the show, following Kelly Clarkson's win with Brynn Cartelli in season fourteen. Also, for the first time, female artists have won four seasons in a row.
Madelyn "Maelyn" Jarmon is an American singer. She is the winner of season 16 of the American talent competition The Voice at the age of 26.
Kelly Brianne Clarkson is an American singer, songwriter, and television personality. She rose to fame in 2002 after winning the inaugural season of the reality competition television series American Idol, which earned her a record deal with RCA Records. Clarkson's debut single, "A Moment Like This", topped the US Billboard Hot 100 chart and became the country's best-selling single of 2002. It was followed by the release of her debut album, Thankful (2003), which debuted atop the US Billboard 200. Trying to reinvent her image, Clarkson decided to part ways with Idol management and shifted to pop rock music for her second album, Breakaway (2004). After numerous top 40 radio number-one singles, such as "Since U Been Gone" and "Because of You", the album sold over 15 million copies worldwide and earned Clarkson two Grammy Awards.
Brynn Cartelli is an American singer. She is the winner of season 14 of the American talent competition The Voice. At the age of 15, she became the youngest person in the show's history to win the competition.
This is also the final season to feature Adam Levine who announced his exit from the series a few days after the finale, and the only time that Adam and John are together. [3]
On September 13, 2018, John Legend was confirmed to be a new coach, alongside Adam Levine, Blake Shelton and Kelly Clarkson. Carson Daly returned for his sixteenth season as host.
John Roger Stephens, known professionally as John Legend, is an American singer, songwriter, record producer, pianist, actor and philanthropist. Prior to the release of Legend's debut album, Get Lifted, (2004) he had collaborated with already established artists and signed to Kanye West's GOOD Music. Legend has sung on Jay-Z's "Encore", Alicia Keys's "You Don't Know My Name", Dilated Peoples' "This Way", Slum Village's "Selfish", Fort Minor's "High Road", and played piano on Lauryn Hill's "Everything Is Everything". Legend's single "All of Me" from his fourth studio album Love in the Future (2013) was a Billboard Hot 100 number-one hit.
Carson Jones Daly is an American television host, radio personality, producer, and television personality. Prior to 2002, Daly was a VJ on MTV's Total Request Live, and a DJ for the Southern California-based radio station 106.7 KROQ-FM. In 2002, Daly joined NBC, where he began hosting and producing the late night talk show Last Call with Carson Daly, and occasionally hosting special event programming for NBC, such as the Macy's Fourth of July fireworks show, and executive producing New Year's Eve with Carson Daly from Times Square beginning in 2003.
The Block and the Save, added in season 14, returned for a third season.
The Knockouts were replaced by a new round called the Live Cross Battles.
Also new this season, trios were allowed onto the show.
This season's advisors for the Battle Rounds are Charlie Puth (who previously appeared in the eleventh season in the series as an advisor for Team Alicia) for Team Adam, Kelsea Ballerini (who was the coach for last season's "Comeback Stage") for Team Kelly, Khalid for Team John Legend, and Brooks & Dunn for Team Blake. [4] [5] [6]
Charles Otto Puth Jr. is an American singer, songwriter and record producer. His initial exposure came through the viral success of his song videos uploaded to YouTube.
The eleventh season of the American reality talent show The Voice premiered on September 19, 2016 on NBC. A 30-minute preview episode aired following NBC's broadcast of the closing ceremony of the 2016 Summer Olympics on August 21, 2016. Carson Daly returns as the show's host. Adam Levine and Blake Shelton returned as coaches. Alicia Keys and Miley Cyrus replaced Pharrell Williams and Christina Aguilera as coaches.
Alicia Augello Cook, known professionally as Alicia Keys, is an American musician, singer, songwriter, and record producer. A classically-trained pianist, Keys was composing songs by age 12 and was signed at 15 years old by Columbia Records. After disputes with the label, she signed with Arista Records, and later released her debut album, Songs in A Minor, with J Records in 2001. The album was critically and commercially successful, producing her first Billboard Hot 100 number-one single "Fallin'" and selling over 12 million copies worldwide. The album earned Keys five Grammy Awards in 2002. Her second album, The Diary of Alicia Keys (2003), was also a critical and commercial success, spawning successful singles "You Don't Know My Name", "If I Ain't Got You", and "Diary", and selling eight million copies worldwide. The album garnered her an additional four Grammy Awards. Her duet "My Boo" with Usher became her second number-one single in 2004. Keys released her first live album, Unplugged (2005), and became the first woman to have an MTV Unplugged album debut at number one.

This season's fifth coach, Bebe Rexha, mentored selected artists who did not make a team during the Blind Auditions as well as eliminated artists from later rounds of the competition, thus creating new rounds to The Comeback Stage. During the first round of competition, the six selected artists went head to head, two artists per episode, and Rexha selected a winner to move on to the next round. In the second round, Bebe Rexha brought back three artists who were eliminated during the Battle Rounds, giving them a chance to re-enter in the competition. These artists faced off against the three artists from the first round. The three winners performed in the Semifinals and one artist was eliminated. In the Finale, Rexha picked one artist to move forward and compete against another eliminated artist from the Live Cross Battles. The two remaining artists performed in the Top 24 Live Results Show for America's votes in the Twitter Instant Save, with the winner officially joining one of the four main teams of their choosing as a part of the Top 13.

The new Live Top 24 round took place on April 29, with results following on April 30. Eight artists, regardless of team, were saved by the public and advance to the Top 13. Each coach chose one of their own artists to advance.
This season, same as last season, the artist who racked up the most streams on Apple Music during the voting window had their Apple Music votes multiplied by 5. [11]
This week, the recipient of the Apple Music multiplier was Gyth Rigdon.
Kanard Thomas, the winner of the Comeback Stage Finals, competed against LB Crew who was eliminated in the Live Cross Battles. America chose LB through an Instant Save, and he completed the Top 13. LB had the choice to join any of the four coaches teams, and he ultimately decided to rejoin Team Adam.

The theme for this week was "Fan Night", meaning that the artists performed songs chosen by the fans.
Eliminations were similar to the ninth, tenth, eleventh, twelfth, thirteenth, fourteenth, and fifteenth seasons' semifinal rounds. The seven artists with the most votes made it straight to the Top 8, the three artists with the fewest votes were instantly eliminated, and the middle three fought for the remaining spot in the Top 8 via Instant Save.
This week, the recipient of the Apple Music multiplier was Maelyn Jarmon.
With the elimination of Jej Vinson, this was the very first time that Kelly Clarkson would only have one artist (Rod Stokes) going into the semifinals. In addition, with the eliminations of Mari and LB Crew, Adam Levine no longer had any artists remaining on his team. This was the third time in a row after the fourteenth and fifteenth seasons in which he had lost his entire team before the finale, and the fifth time overall, the second time being the fourth season, and the first time being the third season. However, this was the second season in which he had lost his entire team before the semifinals, as well, the first being the third season.

The Top 8 performed on Monday, May 13, 2019, with the results following on Tuesday, May 14, 2019. The three artists with the most votes moved on to the finale. The two artists with the fewest votes were immediately eliminated and the middle three contended for the remaining spot in the Finale via the Instant Save. In addition to their individual songs, each artist performed a Beatles duet with another artist in the competition, though these duets will not be available for purchase on iTunes. With the elimination of Rod Stokes, Kelly Clarkson no longer had any artists remaining on her team, thus breaking her two-season winning streak. This was the first season since her introduction as a coach in which she both lost the season and lost her entire team prior to the finale. In addition, this would be the first time since the seventh season in which only two coaches would be represented in the finale, with Blake Shelton being represented by Dexter Roberts, Gyth Rigdon, and Andrew Sevener, and John Legend being represented solely by Maelyn Jarmon. Shelton would also become the second coach to take three members of his team to the finale, the first one being Adam Levine in the seventh season.
In addition, with the advancement of Maelyn Jarmon to the finale, John Legend became the fourth new coach to successfully coach an artist on his team to the finale on his first attempt as a coach, the third being Kelly Clarkson, who coached Brynn Cartelli all the way to the finale of the fourteenth season, the second being Alicia Keys, who coached Wé McDonald all the way to the finale of the eleventh season, and the first being Usher, who coached Michelle Chamuel all the way to the finale of the fourth season.
Once again, The Apple Music multiplier was awarded to Maelyn Jarmon.
