Thiruvattar is a panchayat town in Kanyakumari district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.
This town is situated 6 kilometres (3.7 mi) north-east of Marthandam and 30 km (19 mi) north-west of Nagercoil. The two main rivers Pahrali River and Kothai surround the village and join in Moovattumugam, giving the name Thiru (sacred)+ vatta (surround)+ aru (river). [1] This village, where the famous Sri Adikesavaperumal Temple is located, is one of the 108 Divya Desams. [2] Thiruvattar has been mentioned as Adi Keshava kshetra by Madhva sect saint Shri Vadiraja Tirtha in his pilgrimage travelogue Tirtha Prabandha written in sixteenth century.
As of 2001 [update] India census, [3] Thiruvattaru had a population of 18,404. Males constitute 49% of the population and females 51%. Thiruvattaru has an average literacy rate of 77%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 78%, and female literacy is 75%. In Thiruvattaru, 10% of the population is under 6 years of age.
Thiruvattar assembly constituency is part of Nagercoil (Lok Sabha constituency). [4]

Padmanabhapuram is a town and a municipality near Thuckalay in Kanyakumari district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. As of 2011, the town had a population of 21,342. Padmanabhapuram was the capital of Travancore state in the past. In 1795, the King of Travancore, Rama Varma (known as Dharma Raja moved the capital from Padmanabhapuram to Thruvananthapuram. In 1947, after independence, Padmanabhapuram became part of Travancore-Cochin state When Indian states ware reorganized on the basis of language. In 1957, Padmanabhapuram along with other Tamil-speaking areas were ceded to Madras State, while the Malayalam-speaking areas became part of Kerala. Later the name of Madras State was changed to Tamil Nadu.
