History
In the year 1868, Rev. James Emlyn from New Castle, U.K. an LMS missionary bought the lands where the college is located now. Rev. Robert Sinclair, who succeeded Rev. Emlyn in the year 1910, built a bungalow and started a boarding school on the campus measuring 32 acres.
After independence, the long-felt need for a college at Marthandam resulted in the starting of the Christian College in June 1964 by the Kanyakumari Diocese of the Church of South India. The executive committee of the diocese, which met on 4 January, 1964, entrusted the responsibility of raising funds for the buildings needed to an ad-hoc committee consisting of Messrs. N. Dennis, Ex. MP(Convener) G.A. Ambrose, J. Nesamony, P.S. Wilson and Rev. M.Amose. The Diocese set apart sufficient extent of wetlands as an endowment to satisfy the university requirement. The public in and around Marthandam, the parents, students and members of the teaching and non-teaching staff took a keen interest in the growth of the college and contributed substantial amounts at different times for its development.
With the permission of the Madras University, the Pre-University class was started in 1964 with just 171 students. The college was inaugurated on 6 August 1964 by the then Bishop Rt. Rev. I.R.H. Gnanadason.
In June 1984, the college was renamed as Nesamony Memorial Christian College in recognition of the service rendered by the late Thiru. A. Nesamony M.A, B.L to the Kanyakumari Diocese of the Church of South India.
The college is accredited with "A" Grade by the NAAC.

The Malayalam-speaking regions of the Travancore-Cochin merged with the Malabar District and the Kasaragod Taluk of South Canara district in Madras State to form the modern Malayalam-state of Kerala on 1 November 1956, according to the States Reorganisation Act, 1956 passed by the Government of India.
Marthandam is a major trade centre in Kuzhithuraii municipality across National Highway in the Kanyakumari district of Tamil Nadu, India. Earlier days it was known by the name Thoduvetty, it was a portion of Kanyakumari district which was added to the state of Tamil Nadu on 1 November 1956.

Kuzhithurai is a city and a municipality in Kanyakumari District in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is the administrative headquarters of the Vilavancode Taluk. It is located 26 km (16 mi) north of the Nagercoil city and 42 km (26 mi) south of Kerala's capital city Trivandrum along NH66. It has a historical seaport where ancient merchants came from across the Arabian sea in ancient times. It is mentioned in ancient Indian maps. As of 2011, the town had a population of 21,307.

Malankara Syrian Catholic College, Mariagiri, Tamil Nadu, India is owned and managed by the Eparchy of Marthandam of the Syro-Malankara Catholic Church, with the approval of the government of Tamil Nadu, and is affiliated to Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Thirunelveli. It started in 1998, offering three undergraduate programmes in discipline Biochemistry, Computer Science and Physics. The college was inaugurated by Moran Cyril Mar Baselios Catholicos, Major Archbishop of the Syro-Malankara Catholic Church.

The college is approved by the government of Tamil Nadu and is recognized by AICTE, New Delhi. The college is affiliated to Anna University.
Paramarthalinga Thanulinga Nadar, also known simply as Thanulingam, was an Indian politician, Tamil Nadu Ellai Poratta Thyagi, and a staunch member of the now defunct Travancore Tamil Nadu Congress and would later emerge as a right-wing activist in the State. He served as a Member of Parliament with the Indian National Congress. In his later life, he served as the State President of the Hindu Munnani and played an active role in furthering Hindutva in the Indian State of Tamil Nadu in the 1980s.
A. Nesamony, sometimes known as Marshal Nesamony, was a political leader from Kanyakumari district in Tamil Nadu, India. He was the second son of Kesavan Appavu Nadar, born on 12 June 1895 at Nesarpuram, Palliyadi in Vilavancode Taluk, Kanyakumari district.He graduated from Maharaja's College in Thiruvananthapuram, and studied at law college in Thiruvananthapuram. He began practising in 1921. He was among those involved with the merger of four Taluks from Southern Travancore to Tamil Nadu. Marshal Nesamony is affectionately called as Kumari Thanthai. B. Jeyamohan has written a short story - வணங்கான் inspired from his life.

Christianity in the state of Tamil Nadu, India is the second largest religion in the state. According to tradition, St. Thomas, one of the twelve apostles, landed in Malabar Coast in AD 52. In the colonial age many Portuguese, Dutch, British and Italian Christians came to Tamil Nadu. Priests accompanied them not only to minister the colonisers but also to spread the Christian faith among the non-Christians in Tamil Nadu.
