Toledo Speedway is a half-mile paved oval racetrack located in Toledo, Ohio, United States. It is owned jointly by Roy Mott and NASCAR. It is operated by NASCAR and run as the sister track to Flat Rock Speedway in Flat Rock, Michigan.

History

Toledo Speedway opened in 1960 [1] and was paved in 1964. In 1978 it was sold to Thomas "Sonny" Adams Sr. The speedway was reacquired by ARCA in 1999. The track also features the weekly racing divisions of sportsman on the half-mile and Figure 8, factory stock, and four cylinders on a quarter-mile track inside the big track. They also have a series of races with outlaw-bodied late models that includes four 100-lap races and ends with Glass City 200. The track hosts the “Fastest short track show in the world” which features winged sprints and winged Super Modifieds on the half mile. [2] Toledo also used to host a 200-lap late model race until its sale to ARCA in 1999.

Toledo is known for the foam blocks that line the race track, different than the concrete walls that line many short tracks throughout America. The crumbling walls can make track cleanup a tedious task for workers. [3]

Toledo was one of the oldest tracks to still host an ARCA Menards Series race until 2019. Starting in 2020, after NASCAR bought ARCA, the race became part of the rebranded ARCA Menards Series East (former NASCAR K&N Pro Series East). However, due to COVID-19 related scheduling changes, the track ended up hosting three ARCA races in 2020, and is back on the national schedule in 2021.

National events

Toledo, as a track owned by the Automobile Racing Club of America, plays host to an ARCA Menards Series East race, the Sioux Chief PowerPEX 200 in early October as the Final race of the season. The USAC Silver Crown Series also visits the track. [4] A touring super late model series, the ARCA/CRA Super Series, also holds an event at Toledo. [5]

The race was extended from its scheduled 200 laps to 204 due to a NASCAR overtime finish. At race's end, Ty Gibbs of Joe Gibbs Racing would maintain his dominance of the race on the final restart to win his second career ARCA Menards Series East win and his first of the season. The race was held on Sunday, October 11, 2020, in Pensacola, Florida, at Five Flags Speedway, a 0.5 miles (0.80 km) paved oval-shaped racetrack. The race took the scheduled 200 laps to complete. At race's end, Sam Mayer of GMS Racing would pass a dominating Grant Enfinger and hold off the field to win the 2020 ARCA Menards Series East championship in dominating fashion. The win was Mayer's ninth career win in the ARCA Menards Series East and his fifth and final win of the season. To fill out the podium, Corey Heim of Venturini Motorsports and Ty Gibbs of Joe Gibbs Racing would finish second and third, respectively.

Tommy O'Leary IV is an American professional stock car racing driver who competes part-time in the ARCA Menards Series, driving the No. 06 Chevrolet for Wayne Peterson Racing.

The 2023 Pensacola 200 was the first stock car race of the 2023 ARCA Menards Series East season, and the 4th running of the event. The race was held on Saturday, March 25, 2023, at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Florida, a 0.5 mile (0.80 km) permanent asphalt oval shaped short track. The race took the scheduled 200 laps to complete. In his first career start, William Sawalich, driving for Joe Gibbs Racing, would go on to obliterate the competition, winning the pole and leading every lap of the race to earn his first career ARCA Menards Series East win. To fill out the podium, Luke Fenhaus, driving for Pinnacle Racing Group, and Jake Finch, driving for Venturini Motorsports, would finish 2nd and 3rd, respectively.

The 2024 Owens Corning 200 was the 20th and final stock car race of the 2024 ARCA Menards Series season, and the 3rd iteration of the event. The race was held on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at Toledo Speedway in Toledo, Ohio, a 0.5 mile (0.804 km) permanent oval shaped racetrack. The race took the scheduled 200 laps to complete. William Sawalich, driving for Joe Gibbs Racing, would put on another heater performance, winning the pole and leading a race-high 192 laps to earn his 13th career ARCA Menards Series win, and his ninth of the season. With his win, Sawalich also claimed the owner's championship for the No. 18 car. To fill out the podium, Gio Ruggiero and Kris Wright, both driving for Venturini Motorsports, would finish 2nd and 3rd, respectively.
